About the title name

[edit]

The disambiguation page Metrobus shows that this Metrobus company is not the only bus company known as "Metrobus". To make it clear, I would suggest moving Metrobus (bus company) back to Metrobus (Go-Ahead Group) or renaming it to any other names, and than change the redirect created [i.e. Metrobus (bus company)] to a new disambiguation page, what do you think? 210.0.201.145 (talk) 02:40, 22 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe a different name but I don't think the the "Metrobus (Go-Ahead Group)" name is a particularly good name, as it suggests it is something to do with the management of Go-Ahead, rather than a subsidiary. That is why I moved it to Metrobus (bus company), as that is what most other UK bus company articles are named if there are issues with names. That is good for a temporary measure, but I agree that something needs to be done about the other "Metrobuses". On looking more closely at the others, most are called "Metrobus (place name)", so I would suggest that this article could be moved to "Metrobus (Crawley). This name would be better than "Metrobus (Go-Ahed Group)", as the title itself indicates more about the article. I agree that the "Metrobus (bus company)" should probably redirect to the "Metrobus" disambiguation page at some point. I will leave you to think about this. -- Arriva436 (talk) 16:06, 22 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Once I am sure that all the wikilinks have been changed, I will make Metrobus (bus company) a generic redirect. Secondarywaltz (talk) 15:27, 1 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
It's about time, but before you do anymore... I can't help thinking that naming it without discussion wasn't a very good idea. I've never seen "South East" with a hyphen before, and I would always use capital letters, as in the article South East England. Arriva436talk/contribs 17:56, 1 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yes! You are right. I did this in a thoughtless outburst of energy. My thoughts: "south-east" is wrong - OK (the article mentions south-east London, and an old redirect is Metrobus (bus operator in south-east England) which I think set me down the wrong path); "southeast" would seem to be a compass direction; "south east" is a general locale, which would be more approprate since service is not throughout the formal region of "South East England" and includes London. This is a tricky one. Service is not focused entirely on a major town or a city, and a non specific widely recognizable name is what we need to find. Secondarywaltz (talk) 22:16, 1 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I'd say "South East England", as this would disambiguate from other Metrobus companies by showing where they operate, even if they don't serve all of the South East. Just "South East" would be meaningless. Also, South East England includes(-ish) London. It is very tricky. Arriva436talk/contribs 16:18, 3 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I assumed you knew I meant to include England. What I suggest is "south east England" rather than the capitalized "South East England" which is a formal region. Secondarywaltz (talk) 16:27, 3 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, I didn't realise you were including England. My preference for "XXXX bus station" is because of Wikipedia:NAME#Lowercase second and subsequent words in titles. This is really hard!
I find "South East" with capitals in mostly used, for example, "In unofficial usage, the South East can refer to a varying area" From South East England, so the policy "Do not capitalize second and subsequent words unless the title is almost always capitalized in English" may be appropriate. Arriva436talk/contribs 17:07, 5 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

DONE - "Metrobus (South East England)" it is. Secondarywaltz (talk) 23:43, 11 May 2009 (UTC) I don't think this is really all that important and I will defer to you, and get it away from the "(bus company)" suffix that neither of us like. I still think that South East England in the context of that article is a proper name and capitalized, but as a descriptor it should not be. But let's not drag this out while achieving nothing. I appreciate the amount of work you regularly put in to UK bus articles and I see no reason to disagree with you on this. Thank you. Secondarywaltz (talk) 23:43, 11 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for doing this. The main issue was the bad descriptor, which is now fixed. There's no point bickering over tastes in the new name! It was about time it was done - well done for putting all the effort in to change all of the links, I hate having to do that! Arriva436talk/contribs 21:01, 19 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

London

[edit]

Metrobus no longer operate London bus routes. They are run by Go-Ahead London under the Metrobus name. 87.115.116.61 (talk) 16:53, 26 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
