  • I've read the article and my initial impression is that it's very much close to the GA stuff. However, there are a few issues issues and clarifications that needs to be sorted out before I pass the article.

Initial comments

• He played his last match for Yorkshire County Cricket Club in 1946 and not 1946

• I'm assuming you mean "not 1948" as this is the date the lead gives. Done. Sarastro1 (talk) 21:12, 12 March 2013 (UTC)

• "Wisden" must be italicised in "Wisden Cricketer of the Year" and refs #71 and #72

• Link Harrogate, Australia in 1928–29, Australia in 1932–33, Australia in England in 1934, innings and Lancashire

• Done all but Lancashire. The team is linked, and linking the physical county is, in my view, overlinking.

• "debut that year against West Indies", we normally say the West Indies

• "He held his place until 1938 when he was replaced in the team by younger batsmen, but recalled for the final match of the series, he scored 187, his highest Test score in what became his final match." This sentence can be broken down as it seems too lengthy

• A definition of "professional cricketer" could be given

*I cannot find any link to professional cricketer. We define "amateur cricketer" in few articles but I don't see what a professional cricketer would actually mean to a non-cricket fan. You could add a note. —Vensatry _{(Ping me)} 14:40, 14 March 2013 (UTC)

• I think the reason there is no link is that it is pretty clear. What would the note say: "a person who plays cricket for a living?" That is what professional means, so there is no need to explain it. Sarastro1 (talk) 18:44, 14 March 2013 (UTC)

Test match cricketer

• The stuff explaining Leyland's wife looking after Sutcliffe's children is really significant?

Test regular

• Against Oxford he took eight wickets in the game, which game are you referring to? I would suggest you to rewrite the sentence as it's a little confusing

• I see a problem of underlinking in the article. In addition to the above mentioned ones, a link to South Africa, New Zealand and 1930 Ashes series can be made.

• Don't Pipe link "South African cricket team in England in 1929" to just South Africa, link it to "five matches against South Africa that summer" or something like that. • In all first-class matches he scored 2,175 runs at an average of 50.58, the first time he reached 2,000 runs in a season,[7] and took 53 wickets at 27.92 -> which season?

General

• Leyland being named the Wisden Cricketer of the Year is not mentioned anywhere in the article except the lead.

• The article makes an extensive use of high-quality book sources. Any reason for not linking the short citations. It would be much helpful the reader.

• I prefer not to do this as it involved changing the refs to harvard style. This is a requirement for neither GA nor FA. Sarastro1 (talk) 18:58, 14 March 2013 (UTC)

Last years as a cricketer

• "He was not selected for the first Tests against Australia", not sure what do you mean by "first Tests"
• "as of 2013, it remains England's highest partnership for the second wicket in all Test matches". I think no need to repeat this since the first part clearly mentions it to be a Test match

• Oddly enough, it is never explicitly stated. The implication in most sources is that it was Parkinson's disease which killed him, but they never say so outright. And I'm not sure that Parkinson's would have been the cause anyway. So I'm afraid I don't know. Sarastro1 (talk) 21:36, 15 March 2013 (UTC)
