• Omission: In the chapter “Leben” there is a short section about the Covid-19 pandemic and his attitude towards it. I am not sure if I should translate this part, as it seems odd to me to mention it in this chapter in particular. The rest of this chapter focuses on his career and his achievements, that’s why I found this section about the pandemic unfitting, because it has little to do with his life in general.
Untitled
[edit]- Omission does not seem a good strategy in this case, for the reasons you mention below. Consider providing a bit of context for the English reader who is unfamiliar with Switzerland (e.g. the significance of an initiative in Swiss politics). Chasa73a (talk) 16:40, 25 November 2021 (UTC)
• Addition: Relating to the same section about the Covid-19 pandemic, I found sources about Marco Rima and his attitude towards it. He is a strong opponent of vaccination and shows that politically open with parodies and public videos. I see that this matter is of high importance to him, and many see him now as a figurehead against the Covid-19 pandemic. He even quit his career temporarily out of protest. Therefore, I think it may be useful to include a new chapter about the Covid-19 pandemic and his work for this matter.
- See comment above. And be careful with your formulations: "his work for this matter" sounds positive yet he is against governmental regulations. Chasa73a (talk) 16:40, 25 November 2021 (UTC)
• Omission: “Rima bezeichnet sich als Tessiner.» I don’t think that this sentence is useful for the English speaking audience. The audience lacks cultural knowledge about the views from Swiss people on the different cantons, so I would simply not translate this sentence. It even seems strange to mention it in the German version.
- I agree. And does it make any sense to include the rest of the private information (e.g. marital status, children, residency)? How is this handled in other English articles about this type of performer? Chasa73a (talk) 16:40, 25 November 2021 (UTC)
• Addition: In the article they do not mention his style of comedy. I think that is important information for the target audience, as they may not know him yet. With a short description they can get an overview of his style of performance, which is also very unique and typical of Marco Rima.
- The first line includes a minimal description, but some of the information in the body of the text would certainly benefit from a bit more explanation that his style of cabaret is not just light comedy, song and dance. Chasa73a (talk) 16:40, 25 November 2021 (UTC)
How I dealt with the challenges
[edit]- I tried to structure the part "life" better and changed the title to "career" because it has more information on his career than on his life. I structured it with more sections for a better overview.
- I did a subtitle on the Covid-pandemic to draw the line between "then" and "now". It seems to be an important topic, that's why sectioned it off from the rest and added more information.
- I did an omission from his private life (child and wife) as it does not seem important to me.
- I added a few sentences to his style of comedy and linked each of them to a wiki-page, so the readers can see what is meant by that.
I asked myself how to deal with the German titles of his works and performances - should I translate them? I researched in a wikipedia article about Kaya Yanar and saw that some of his works were translated into English and some weren't.
Revision
[edit]Hi Rodinia Nena! First I would like to say that I found your article very interesting and I think you did a very good job! However, there are a few things that I would change.
- Maybe you could put a picture of Marco Rima in the article. I think the readers would be interested to have a picture of the person they are reading about.
- I think you have to put a source to the countries like Germany or Liechtenstein when you are using them for the first time.
- I would make a slight change in the way you wrote the movies and TV shows. I think usually you would write the year first then a bullet point and after that the title of the movie. On the Wikipedia page of Kaya Yanar, it was done the same way.
- In addition, you used the weblink of Marco Rima's official website. Maybe I would also put his name on the weblink, so the readers are sure what the source is exactly.
- In the following sentence you wrote "at the Nebelspalter". I think this is the wrong preposition and "in" or "on" would be correct, since it is a magazine.
"Since 2021, he has a weekly video format "Rima-Spalter" at the Nebelspalter."
I did not find any other grammar or semantic errors and I also think that it was a good idea to put more sections in the article. Also, I think it is very good that you decided to write the Covid-pandemic part to draw the line between "then" and "now" because I think it is important too and gives a better overview. In addition, as you changed the title to "career" I think it makes sense to leave out the information about his private life. The German article does not have much information on his private life, so in that case, I also think that it is not important to add that information. To answer your question, I would only translate the name of the titles, if there are official English translations. Otherwise, I would use the original title.
I hope my revision is helpful for you. --Nuva13 (talk) 15:24, 10 December 2021 (UTC)
