Made love?
[edit]i have doubt about when they made love. I have the uncut edition, and in no point of the movie Renato and Malena actually made love. Renato did have sex with a prostitute who looked like Malena. Maybe the author got confused? User:172.156.221.157
- Agreed, and the phrase removed. Renato has sex with a prostitute who looks like Malèna, and he fantasizes about having sex with Malèna, but he never actually does. —Lowellian (reply) 05:16, September 1, 2005 (UTC)
- Similarly I've seen footage of a dream sequence in which the boy kneels in front of Malena and fondles her a bit, but the scene goes no further than that. Lucky kid, regardless. 24.71.223.140 15:05, 19 September 2005 (UTC)
Comment
[edit]"As Renato matures into a young man, he gains the courage to confront her about his love for her. They eventually meet". He just helps her pick up her spilled oranges and wishes her good luck thats all. -Gillean666 06:44, 14 November 2005 (UTC)
Uncut version scene?
[edit]What is featured in the uncut version of the scene where Renato visits a brothel? Is sex actually shown? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.217.12.162 (talk) 11:40, 11 March 2008 (UTC)
Why is article incomplete?
[edit]There used to be a section discussing the fact the version of the film distributed in North America omits most if not all of the sexual content involving the young actor and Malena. Why was this cut? It's been stated that the uncut version is considered qualitatively superior to the edited version. 68.146.70.177 (talk) 18:50, 26 March 2012 (UTC)
Negative Reviews
[edit]Why include two negative reviews by careerist journalists who only write to exercise their journalistic inspiration? This was a wonderful film. What does "slight" mean anyways? It was most likely given negative reviews because of love scenes (suggested or not) between the boy and the Malena (with full female frontal nudity) and the whore house scene. It was more political than anything.

"But Fellini sees the humor that underlies sexual obsession, except (usually but not always) in the eyes of the participants. Malena is a simpler story, in which a young man grows up transfixed by a woman and essentially marries himself to the idea of her"
But this was not a Fellini film. It portrayed a young boy who was in love with a woman. Who included this review and why? Because he/she agreed with it or is impressed with Ebert's clever writing skills? Childhood crushes on adults do not have to be comedic they can be sentimental. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.239.250.100 (talk) 08:53, 15 February 2014 (UTC)

Is the scene which men bring lighters to Malena for her to smoke her cigarette inspired by the last scene of German 1984 movie Didi - Der Doppelganger (Non-Stop Trouble With My Double)? Aminabzz (talk) 08:07, 22 September 2023 (UTC)
