Entertainment/places of interest
[edit]What is the thought on places of interest and/or entertainment venues? I know there are not a huge number, but some of the places that offer live entertainment or other attractions for the residents and/or tourists should be listed. Grapevine Lake bike/walking trails, the city park, or even Casa Mexicana/Bullies who provide live entertainment and night-life. Mancide 16:19, 15 June 2007 (UTC)
- It's tough to do for smaller places, but see what I've done with my hometown of Greenville, Kentucky. It's by no means complete, but it's better than nothing. I think it's appropriate if the verbiage is cited and the venues mentioned meet WP:NOTE. Acdixon 16:25, 15 June 2007 (UTC)
Mayors
[edit]There is a deletion request outstanding for Will Cox, the immediate former mayor of Madisonville. You can read the discussion at the Talk page there. Rather than lose the information (which apparently only appears on the official town website for the current mayor), I created a table in this (the town's) article as a gesture of Good Faith which was summarily rebuffed as it was immediately deleted as being 'incomplete', and having 'too much information'. I don't know who the previous mayors are because that wasn't in the Will Cox article and I had, and have, no particular reason to devote a large chunk of my life to researching that. I presume someone connected with this town might be interested, but deleting it seems odd considering the principle of Wikipedia is building on others' efforts in a collaboration. I assumed the information is considered relevant, or it wouldn't be in the town's official website for the current mayor. It's the sort of information found in Infoboxes which are used for individual articles, so I can't see how it's suddenly 'irrelevant' when put into a different form. But, I don't really care. I will not be wasting any more of my time in trying to help you. Flatterworld (talk) 16:32, 10 April 2011 (UTC)
- Note: the 'revert' by Wkharrisjr reverted the information to claiming Will Cox was still the current Mayor, which is incorrect. If you're going to revert the revert, you might want to consider either correcting that, or deleting the whole paragraph. Flatterworld (talk) 16:41, 10 April 2011 (UTC)
- Regarding 'too much information'- information like alma mater, religion, spouse, and possibly profession are really trivial. With regard to the table of mayors, I think it might be a good idea but should really include more than just three names- this makes it appear as if the city has only had three mayors. Please consider these points.Wkharrisjr (talk) 22:09, 10 April 2011 (UTC)
- I can appreciate both sides in this discussion. In the interest of preserving the information and encouraging others to add to it, could we possibly move it to a sub-page (e.g. Talk:Madisonville, Kentucky/Mayors, per WP:Subpages) until it becomes a little more complete, then decide where in the mainspace it belongs? Acdixon (talk • contribs • count) 13:50, 11 April 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks for your 'appreciation' and 'proposed solution' of burying on an totally unnecessary Talk subpage - this one's hardly been used, as anyone can see. If neither of you can be bothered to keep track of who's mayor of this town, I suggest you delete all of that and not pretend you're actually interested in the article. Just point readers to the official site and be done with it. 15:47, 11 April 2011 (UTC)Flatterworld (talk)
- I'm sorry you feel that my proposed solution is unnecessary. I personally use subpages quite often to hold content until it is ready for the main space. Truthfully, I don't really have the inclination to dig up the name of every mayor of the town between 1807 and now, but if an incomplete list were maintained somewhere, I might be inclined to add to it as I find such information in the future. As it is, I doubt an incomplete list is likely to survive in the article for long, although I'm not the one who removed it to begin with. So yes, I am actually interested in preserving this information, and I think what I proposed is probably the most effective means of doing so. It at least seems more productive than deleting everything and point people to the town web site instead. Acdixon (talk • contribs • count) 16:18, 11 April 2011 (UTC)
