Requested move 29 January 2018

[edit]
The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the move request was: Moved. And "MEO" is not capitalized since it is not acronym. (non-admin closure)Ammarpad (talk) 10:18, 5 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

MEO (Portugal)Meo (telecommunication service) – It's not like "Meo" is an acronym of anything (WP:MOS-TM). Plus, none of telcos outside Portugal is using Meo brand for their services. JSH-alive/talk/cont/mail 14:52, 29 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The above discussion is preserved as an archive of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on this talk page or in a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.

@Ammarpad: Acronym or not, that's how it's spelled in majority of reliable sources. — Zawl 10:22, 5 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Zawl: That's stylistics, usually only Acronym are made in capital to denote they mean something beyond their literal meaning. –Ammarpad (talk) 10:28, 5 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
"Although official, scientific, birth, original, or trademarked names are often used for article titles, the term or name most typically used in reliable sources is generally preferred." — Zawl 10:30, 5 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Sources both use Meo and MEO, while the primary source and its affiliates prefer stylistic trademarks (naturally). Wikipedia don't promote brand in titles, Iff MEO were an acronym, then it would have been better title. However, since it is single word, no need of stylizations. @JSH-alive: I see that you added the merger notice but did not start a discussion, therefore I am starting it.Gotitbro (talk) 17:01, 15 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Agree I support the merger. Both articles are about the same thing, don't see why there should be different articles for the brand and the company as both are same. Also see MEO on Bloomberg and this quote from the ITU website:

PT Portugal Shareholding Management Company PLC (“PT Portugal”) is a global telecommunications and multimedia operator based in Portugal. MEO – Serviços de Comunicações e Multimédia, SA (“MEO”) is its operational company (and commercial brand), whose activities extend across all telecommunications segments: fixed line, mobile, multimedia, data and business solutions.

  • Support, don't see why we shouldn't. AdrianWikiEditor (talk) 16:39, 29 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
