[edit]The date for L. Julius Caesar IV's consulship was incorrectly listed as 63 BCE. This was the year of Cicero and Antonius Hybrida. See here: http://www.ancientlibrary.com/smith-bio/0547.html which correctly states him as being consul in 64 BCE. - Amphipolis 14:13, 1 June 2006 (UTC)
non-standard designations
[edit]The use of Roman numerals is a non-standard way to distinguish among the Lucii Iulii Caesares. What happens to the numerical sequence if you add an earlier one? One conventional way to distinguish among Roman men of the same name is by the highest office each held. Elsewhere on Wikipedia this seems to be the dominant convention; for example, Lucius Julius Caesar (consul 90 BC). I think it's worth moving these pages. Cynwolfe (talk) 14:49, 24 August 2009 (UTC)
Agreed with Cynwolfe. This method wasn't used by the Romans and isn't used by antiquarians (I have seen Roman numerals in parenthesis used to distinguish multiple individuals, but this has nothing to do with whether one was the son or grandson of another, it simply means there are multiple individuals). Most of these individuals should either have separate articles or be noted on one or two lines under Julia (gens), in a subsection marked Julii Caesares. I'll get to that gens soon if that helps.
Also, I'm not aware of any connection between the Julii Caesares and the Julii Libones. Nor of any individual named Numerius Julius, with any cognomen. I found my index to Pauly-Wissowa last night and there's no such person listed (I would have made careful note of such a name, too). This connection, not found in any source with which I'm acquainted, needs some kind of documentation. P Aculeius (talk) 14:50, 12 January 2010 (UTC)
- I don't see much recent activity within the narrative content of this article, so if this dovetails with your project, you should go head and fix it, P Aculeius, based on your systematic approach. Cynwolfe (talk) 22:31, 12 January 2010 (UTC)
