Pending Cases

WHY is Howard Hull still listed as other? His family provided his social security record as proof and his baptismal record as proof. That is two out of the needed three documents. He should be on the pending list at least. born May 10, 1900. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.58.119.97 (talk) 01:37, 2 November 2012 (UTC)

It is not up to wiki editors to decide whether a candidate has the required documents to be added to the pending list. At present the pending list in this article is taken directly from the GRG pending list. To add a case without a proper citation would be OR. DerbyCountyinNZ (Talk Contribs) 02:11, 2 November 2012 (UTC)

I heard that Howard Hall joined the National Guard in June of 1918. This is before the end of WW1 that occurred on November 11, 1918. Even though he never left the United States would he be considered a WW1 veteran? He was active during the war but never went overseas to fight in the war.If a waitress at an air base in England serving coffee is considered a veteran of WW1 . Would a National guardsman in the United States be given the same consideration? Does anyone know the rules on this? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.58.119.97 (talk) 14:16, 9 November 2012 (UTC)

Reliable source? The only evidence you provided is hearsay. Is Howard Hall even verifiable? 124.187.67.216 (talk) 15:29, 12 November 2012 (UTC)

To unknown person I interviewed his relatives and they produced a uniform of the WW1 time frame and said it was his. As for Howard Hall being verifiable. Many blacks being born during that time frame were born at home so a birth certificate issued from a hospital did not happen. So like many cases it is harder to prove an exact date of birth for black people do to them being born without doctors involved. When social security went into effect in the 1930's the government accepted birth dates written in the family bible as an official birth certificate for benefits . They continued this practice until the December 31, 1999. Now 99% of live births occur at hospitals and a birth certificate is required. The live births at home are now required to be registered as they happen. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.253.155.86 (talk) 15:19, 13 November 2012 (UTC)

Until he is included in a list by a reputable gerontological organisation such as the GRG he will only be included in the Other list, provided there is a citation that claims he is a supercentenarian and is still alive. At the moment there is no such citation, the one provided goes to a page which does not mention him. Unless someone can find a proper citation he should be removed. DerbyCountyinNZ (Talk Contribs) 21:44, 13 November 2012 (UTC)

Beryl Kapaun

The Table E shows Beryl Kapaun as in number 11 slot, but there's not one on Wiki, has she just been added? Williamb (talk) 10:31, 9 November 2012 (UTC)

Updating table numbering when entry is removed?

Sorry I'm such a novice to editing, but how do I correct the table numbering short of manually going down the list? Seanette (talk) 23:16, 4 December 2012 (UTC)

This can only be done manually. DerbyCountyinNZ (Talk Contribs) 01:25, 5 December 2012 (UTC)

Madeleine Lawrence - 110

Hi, would someone be able to add Sister Madeleine Lawrence of Australia to the other reports and Australian SC page? I don't know how to format the table lol. She turned 110 on the 8th of December.

Source for 110th birthday: http://www.esperanceexpress.com.au/story/1175556/worlds-oldest-nun-turns-110-years-old/?cs=2452

Thanks! 124.186.135.207 (talk) 04:14, 13 December 2012 (UTC)

Done, for this page. DerbyCountyinNZ (Talk Contribs) 04:41, 13 December 2012 (UTC)

Sophia Jones

A woman from Belize has turned 110 years old yesterday. Should she be added in pending cases list because the last heard from her is in 2008? 62.72.230.103 (talk) 06:47, 29 December 2012 (UTC)

Definitely not unless there is a report that she was alive on her claimed 110th birthday. Last heard from in 2008, and you expect her to still be alive without a report? Ridiculous! DerbyCountyinNZ (Talk Contribs) 07:45, 29 December 2012 (UTC)
As rude as Derby is getting maybe he should be banned from contributing to this article at all. Williamb (talk) 07:49, 30 December 2012 (UTC)

What about this woman Warina Zaya Bashou from Iraq. She was on news in january according to this article [1]. She also have a picture and lot of links in invisionfree pages. She is over 111 years old and should be on pending cases list. Right? 62.72.230.103 (talk) 16:31, 29 December 2012 (UTC)

Not unless there is a source which gives her claimed date of birth. DerbyCountyinNZ (Talk Contribs) 21:38, 29 December 2012 (UTC)

This is the best source that I have found [2]. it tells that U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services spokeswoman Marilu Cabrera says Bashou was born in 1900 in Iraq and will be the second-oldest person on record to be naturalized. His birthday is in 1:st july. Is that enough for reliable source? 62.72.230.103 (talk) 07:25, 30 December 2012 (UTC)

There is nothing in that link that mentions an actual birthday. So, no. DerbyCountyinNZ (Talk Contribs) 09:40, 30 December 2012 (UTC)

Is that Latvian who recentry turned 114 years old and whose name was anonymous dead? 62.72.230.103 (talk) 11:48, 2 January 2013 (UTC)

Elsie Ward

Elsie Ward from St Lucia is now 110 years old. End of this old source [3] says her age. So could someone add her on list? 62.72.230.103 (talk) 15:11, 15 January 2013 (UTC)

Actually, according to the report she is 109 and therefore does not qualify for inclusion here. DerbyCountyinNZ (Talk Contribs) 20:59, 15 January 2013 (UTC)

Possible pending case

Pablo Marcelo Orozco from Guatemala is now 111 years old. There is two years old source [4] that was posted when he was 109. Could someome add him on the list? 62.72.230.103 (talk) 16:43, 18 January 2013 (UTC)

Definitely not. There must be a recent citation that he is currently alive before he can be included. DerbyCountyinNZ (Talk Contribs) 21:27, 18 January 2013 (UTC)
No update in well over a year, no confirmation that he reached 111 (or even 110), and the GRG probably doesn't have him listed as pending, so no. 58.164.174.3 (talk) 00:43, 22 January 2013 (UTC)

Forgotten supercentenarians?

Is es:María Juana Martínez from Argentina still alive? There was a source [5] that was posted when she turned 114 years old and she was also list of oldest living people by nation until she was removed. Why if she is still alive? Also it:Marianna Ostrowska from Poland IS still alive according to italian wikipedia and she is over 115 years old. Hasn´t their ages been verified? If is then why they are not on the list? 62.72.230.103 (talk) 19:25, 30 January 2013 (UTC)

In general, when claimants exceed 113 and have not been verified, they are moved to the longevity claims page where both of the above claimants can be found. That page lists living claimants whose claims have not been verified, up to the age of 130, verified alive within the past two years. Those who claim greater ages move to the longevity myths page. Canada Jack (talk) 19:41, 30 January 2013 (UTC)

Hamdan Ali Raddah Al-Malki

Saudi Arabian men is now 110 years old. Has there been new information about him after this old source [6] that was posted when he was 109? 62.72.230.103 (talk) 10:02, 2 February 2013 (UTC)

It is really a waste of time to keep asking whether old cases can be updated. There are a number of editors who belong to groups which keep an eye on such things. If there is something available which cannot be found from a simple Google search they are likely to find it. If not it means that it is more than likely the person is dead or they are no longer considered to be legitimate cases. DerbyCountyinNZ (Talk Contribs) 10:38, 2 February 2013 (UTC)

Request

I have a request to GRG. Could you confirm that Majombijele Mpontjane from Swaziland is now 110? I also ask that you could confirm that Pasquale Gatti from San Marino is truly over 108. 62.72.230.103 (talk) 13:12, 6 February 2013 (UTC)

Alexander Imich is turning 110 in about 6 days Has the powers that be considered getting the ball rolling on him? Williamb (talk) 13:00, 29 January 2013 (UTC)

Once there is a report of him actually celebrating his 110th birthday from a news source or other reliable source, he can be added. So, for example, he can't be added on the stroke of midnight on his birthday until a report is published. Otherwise, the claim has not been confirmed and it constitutes original research. Canada Jack (talk) 20:36, 29 January 2013 (UTC)

Somebody just took him off the unverified list again, even though we have this report from the New York State Senate: http://open.nysenate.gov/legislation/bill/K54-2013 — Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.20.87.132 (talk) 23:44, 6 February 2013 (UTC)

That report was merely a proposal to congratulate him on his birthday and was dated 6 days before his 110th birthday. There must be a citation mentioning that he was alive and celebrated that birthday for him to be included. DerbyCountyinNZ (Talk Contribs) 01:28, 7 February 2013 (UTC)

It's not a reliable source of course but he does seem to be alive if you search his name at peoplesmart, which is usually pretty good at updating when someone dies. So it's worth keeping an eye out for a better source. Canadian Paul 23:06, 2 March 2013 (UTC)

If their is doubt about him being alive. Call the Anomalous Phenomena Research Center of New York City he is president and you can talk to him directly on the phone. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.253.155.86 (talk) 02:59, 6 March 2013 (UTC)

The APRC is likely currently very little active, it's his project without much funding since he lost his fortune in speculations. No personel. Here is a report on Alex' birthday with a photo: http://www.dorotusa.org/site/PageServer?pagename=about_news_happy_birthday_dr_imich , so now there would be enough proof he was still living at his birthday to put him on the unverified list of "other reports". His claim about being born in Czestochowa, Poland feb.4 1903 has also been published in this book: http://books.google.se/books?id=sXMzl0kVfa4C&printsec=frontcover&redir_esc=y#v=onepage&q&f=false Hepcat65 (talk) 17:01, 13 March 2013 (UTC)

Masao Kaga

This man is listed as verified in the oldest person list. He is not listed on the oldest male list. Is this a mistake or is he being kept off the oldest male list for some unknown reason? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.253.155.86 (talk) 06:56, 1 March 2013 (UTC)

I believe he was added to the GRG "verified" list in only the last day - why not do the honours and add him! Canada Jack (talk) 15:17, 1 March 2013 (UTC)

Is that person alive?

Haji Qasim from Syria. Clamed age over 112. Is he still alive because there is no report him since 2011? Or has the Syrian civil war affected his hometown or village where he lived and he is escaped and is hiding somewhere with his family? 62.72.230.103 (talk) 11:11, 17 March 2013 (UTC)

In regards to this article: If he has not been listed as verified/pending by the GRG and there hasn't been a report since 2011, he would not be listed in this article since 'other reports' of longevity are removed from this list when it has been over a year since there has been a report that the person is still alive. — JJJ (say hello) 13:29, 18 March 2013 (UTC)
Save to assume he has passed away if there hasn't been an update on him since 2011 and he hasn't been verified/pended by the GRG. 124.187.87.159 (talk) 06:30, 19 March 2013 (UTC)
We cannot know assume that he is deceased merely because recent media coverage has been lacking. — JJJ (say hello) 15:23, 19 March 2013 (UTC)

Ten verified people left born 1899 or before

We are down to a milestone . Their are only 10 people left alive born 1899 or before verified. It is possible that one more on the pending list may be verified. The people alive in parts of three century's is just about over. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.253.155.86 (talk) 16:06, 4 April 2013 (UTC)

And this improves this article how? DerbyCountyinNZ (Talk Contribs) 20:55, 4 April 2013 (UTC)
I think it's a very interesting point. No need for sarcasm. Czolgolz (talk) 21:01, 4 April 2013 (UTC)
At the top of this page it says "This is the talk page for discussing improvements to the List of living supercentenarians article." and "This is not a forum for general discussion of the article's subject." DerbyCountyinNZ (Talk Contribs) 21:35, 4 April 2013 (UTC)
As far as I can tell Derby only does sarcasm. Williamb (talk) 14:53, 5 April 2013 (UTC)
The 19th century ended Dec 31 1900, not Dec 31 1899, so there are currently 22 living people verified who have lived in 3 centuries. Canada Jack (talk) 16:23, 5 April 2013 (UTC)

Alexander Imich

Alexander Imich is now listed as a supercentarian with a birth date of 4 Feb 1903. He is also A polish veteran of WW1. Their are four men listed as unverified WW1 Veterans who died between 2010-2012. I believe we should show this man the same consideration and re-create the list with him on it. At age 15 it is highly probable that he fought the Russians during WW1 as he claims defending Poland from the invader. In WW2 Germany drafted the Hitler Youth into regular army units in 1945 with some children as young as 12 fighting for the Fatherland. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.253.155.86 (talk) 08:07, 13 February 2013 (UTC)

Actually:
  1. The citation suggesting he has celebrated his 110th birthday is not very convincing, it is really a case of "Alexander Imich would be 110 now so let's wish him happy birthday because we haven't heard that he's died". So he is fortunate to even be included in the Other Reports list at this time.
  2. The consensus after MANY discussions is that he should not be considered a WWI veteran.
  3. "Highly probable" is not a good enough argument for inclusion in any article.
  4. What may or may not have happened in WWII is irrelevant to any argument about participation or not in WWI.
  5. Discussion of whether he should be considered a WWI veteran has nothing to do with this article.

DerbyCountyinNZ (Talk Contribs) 08:51, 13 February 2013 (UTC)

Sante Dal Santo, Carlo Dozzi, Harry Futcher , And Douglas Terry were considered WW1 Veterans and listed as Unverified WW1 Veterans seperate but mentioned. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.253.155.86 (talk) 15:12, 13 February 2013 (UTC)

They were not absolutely proven but highly probable and at their advanced age what benefit would they receive by lying? None that would matter . Many Polish veterans have no absolutely proven records because the city's that kept records were destroyed in both WW1 and WW2. I believe he is just as valid as the four previously mentioned and must be included just like they were or the four must be removed from any mention to be fair to all.

If not the list is hypocritical and Alexander Imich is being discriminated against for some reason

Am I missing something? What does participation in WWI have to do with this page? Canada Jack (talk) 17:01, 13 February 2013 (UTC)

Because he is a supercentarian who happens to be the most likely last WW1 veteran alive. That is why. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.253.155.86 (talk) 20:15, 13 February 2013 (UTC)

??? This is a page of living Super-C's, not a list of people who are 110+ with an attendant list of their accomplishments, however valiant. Your critique here is misplaced. Canada Jack (talk) 20:48, 13 February 2013 (UTC)

With the official end of WW1 not until June 28,1919. He easily could of been fighting for Poland because on the date of the official end of the war he would have been 16 years and 4 months old. As Warsaw was almost taken every boy in Poland that could carry a gun would have been fighting off the invader. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.253.155.86 (talk) 05:29, 9 April 2013 (UTC)

Jiroemon Kimura now age 116.

All the maximum possible ages for men must be updated to age 116. This is because Kimura just had his 116 verified birthday today proving age 116 is not only possible but now has occurred and verified. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.253.155.86 (talk) 20:43, 18 April 2013 (UTC)

Are you referring to the upper limit of the 'other claims' section of 113? That is not the oldest possible age, but rather the longest an unverified person can remain in this article. — JJJ (say hello) 21:22, 18 April 2013 (UTC)
Somewhere in one of the articles it says that there's never been a verified man of age 116 and it's unlikely there will be one. (I'm not sure why such a truly dumb thing was let stand, maybe because most everybody has become terrified by the article tyrants that rule here). I think that is what is being referred to. Vi Robbins update

The latest citation http://newslocal.newspaperdirect.com/epaper/viewer.aspx for Vi Robbins does NOT take the reader to the article the source is taken from. To find the actual article requires the reader to manually search for it (the title is "Little Nan still loves to help out others"), making the supplied citation useless. I suspect this violates a wiki guideline on citations but cannot find it. Does anyone know what the ruling on this should be? DerbyCountyinNZ (Talk Contribs) 00:16, 5 May 2013 (UTC)

Well DerbyCountyinNZ, do you know of a way to link there? There is a valid citation of her at the age of 111 so I don't see what is the problem.DHanson317 (talk) 00:19, 5 May 2013 (UTC)
No I tried, someone with aspx knowledge may know how to do it but I don't. The problem is the citation is not valid if it does not link to a relevant source. The purpose of a citation is to allow the reader to check that the information in the article accurately reflects the source. This citation does not do that. DerbyCountyinNZ (Talk Contribs) 00:34, 5 May 2013 (UTC)

If that's the case, his page should point out that his age is unverified. Is there a template/category for disputed super-centenarians? -- Jevanyn talk 14:38, 2 June 2013 (UTC)
Self-answered: there is such a category, and there is someone maintaining the page, but the dispute was removed on the grounds of Wikipedia:SYNTH and Wikipedia:OR -- Jevanyn talk

Robert Young stated on the GRG page here that Benando Lapallo is at least ten years younger than he claims he is. Lapallo has claimed a birth year from 1901 to 1910, has gone by the name Bernando, fails to provide early life details to help verify his claim and he's promoting longevity products. CommanderLinx (talk) 21:33, 2 June 2013 (UTC)

Using census records he appears to be born in 1908/1909 for an age of 104/105 as of 2013. An age much more likely for him to be. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.253.155.86 (talk) 04:06, 3 June 2013 (UTC)

Józef Kowalski

It is now really important to check and verify Józef_Kowalski as oldest living male. 87.160.132.136 (talk) 06:44, 12 June 2013 (UTC)

That is NOTHING to do with wikipedia, or this talk page. DerbyCountyinNZ (Talk Contribs) 07:41, 12 June 2013 (UTC)
Sorry, I don't get you. Kowalski is in Wikipedia, claiming being born February 2nd 1900, but he is not listed in this page. Sure it is not Wikipedia's task to verify him, but at least to mention him among the open claims. He even was in that list, but was removed some time ago. Do you agree now that there is an issue? 193.174.67.20 (talk) 08:47, 12 June 2013 (UTC)
That is a different issue. The upper limit for unverified claims in this article is 113, as agreed by consensus. As Kowalski has passed his claimed 113th birthday he no longer meets the criteria for inclusion in this article. He could be included in the Longevity claims article (along with the considerable amount of other such unverified claims). DerbyCountyinNZ (Talk Contribs) 09:10, 12 June 2013 (UTC)
Yes, Kowalski should be on the claims page - where he'd be the world's 12th-oldest male of those unverified claims within what is considered a scientifically plausible age. (There are more men who claim to be even older). Canada Jack (talk) 16:06, 13 June 2013 (UTC)

Jozef Kowalski has been verified by the Polish Government. The GRG has not verified him for some reason. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:D:A500:107:58FD:E7AA:67FF:F1F5 (talk) 06:09, 15 June 2013 (UTC)

Greater precision for place of residence

I think it would be interesting to specify the place of residence further than national level. Some parts of Japan may be producing more supercentenarians than others. On the other hand, US is a nation of immigrants, so geography wouldn't be as interesting. --Akanpe (talk) 13:17, 17 June 2013 (UTC)

The consensus of previous discussions relating to this issue is that the hour of birth for determining the relative age of individuals is it is too insignificant (as well as largely impossible to determine exactly) and should be ignored. DerbyCountyinNZ (Talk Contribs) 03:05, 18 June 2013 (UTC)

Ralph Tarrant

Ralph Tarrant born United Kingdom of Great Britain on July 7,1903 has been verified by the British government. In three days he should go on the verified list as a supercentarian. Read the article: "To be considered verified a supercentenarian must have their age validated by an international body that specifically deals in longevity research such as the Gerontology Research Group (GRG)."

He hasn't been verified by the GRG. Until he's listed as pending/verified, he'll remain in the unverified section. CommanderLinx (talk) 08:49, 1 August 2013 (UTC)

Meta Dishman

Can anyone find any mention of Meta Dishman in http://www.countrycouriernews.com/uploads/CountryCourier.pdf? I can't find anything on her in that link. If no one else can find her there and there isn't any other 110th birthday confirmation, I think she should be removed from the Other reports list. Verne2000 (talk) 21:48, 11 July 2013 (UTC)

GRG Page EE incorrect?

The additional people added to the unverified list on July 11, 2013 are shown on the GRG EE page, http://www.grg.org/Adams/EE6.htm, as being alive and unverfied as of June 15, 2013. Verne2000, what source do you have showing this table is incorrect? Thanks Spparky (talk) 00:55, 12 July 2013 (UTC)

I have now answered this on my talk page. Verne2000 (talk) 01:02, 12 July 2013 (UTC)
It is probably worth noting that the GRG appears to only update Table EE every month or so, whereas Table E is usually updated within a day or so of a new verification (and sometime a little longer for a death).DerbyCountyinNZ (Talk Contribs) 01:24, 12 July 2013 (UTC)

Finnish supercentenarians

Selma Tuominen from Finland is now 110 years old. Finland government has accepted her age but has GRG? Hopefully we get report about her and she will get verified soon.

Józef Kowalski

Józef Kowalski (born 2 February 1900), according to the article Józef_Kowalski, should be on this page somewhere. (I just stumbled onto him reading about the war.) OsamaBinLogin (talk) 01:10, 2 September 2013 (UTC)

He is not verified (and almost certainly never will be) and is claimed to be over 113 therefore he no longer qualifies for inclusion (he was included until his 113th birthday). See the most recent discussion about him here. DerbyCountyinNZ (Talk Contribs) 01:24, 2 September 2013 (UTC)

He's 113 and not verified so he won't be mentioned on this page. You can find him over in Longevity claims. CommanderLinx (talk) 02:43, 2 September 2013 (UTC).

He has been verified by the Polish Government and the polish military. The GRG has not verified him yet. [Unsigned comment by 98.253.155.86]

Doesn't matter. He won't be included on this page until he is verified by the GRG. Anyway, the correspondent for Poland found a record that shows he had a sister born in June 1900, making February 1900 impossible. His family are still refusing to cooperate in helping verify his real age. CommanderLinx (talk) 18:39, 25 October 2013 (UTC)

Why is Józef Kowalski not in this list?

His Wikipedia entry does not state that his given date of birth (2 February 1900) is subject to any doubt. He is also included on Wikipedia's page of last surviving veterans of wars.

I attempted to note that this is a "claimed" age, and was shot down by what seemed to be a coordinated attack. For a person whose claim to fame is his advanced age, to hear that to note that this claim is just that - an unverified claim - is not kosher, is rather bizarre. Canada Jack (talk) 23:21, 11 November 2013 (UTC)

As he died December 7, 2013 he should no longer be on this list at all. He has been verified by the polish government, Polish military and Catholic church. That is the three needed for total verification but GRG never verified him for some reason. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.253.155.86 (talk) 07:34, 15 December 2013 (UTC)

Edit war over sortable table

We have a couple of people (possibly more) using random ISPs to continually revert the sortable table on this and other longevity articles. This is getting extremely tiresome! Personally I don't see the point in sorting the table, for one thing if you try and sort more than once it will be incorrect because of ties. However if enough users agree that it's useful could they indicate so here. Once there is consensus, either way, I intend to have the relevant pages semi-protected to stop the reverts. DerbyCountyinNZ (Talk Contribs) 01:32, 15 October 2013 (UTC)

For these tables, they are meant to be in one order. They were created to be in the order of age, which they already are. The rank, birth date, and age are already sorted. The only valid explanation I can see for having the table being 'sortable' is to sort the place of residence. But once again, seeing that these tables were created to be in one single order, I'd say not to have them sortable they don't need to be sortable. Not that I have a strong argument or care either way. — JJJ (say hello) 01:41, 15 October 2013 (UTC)
Having it sortable also allows for the tables to be sortable by gender (though with only two males in the living verified list at present, this really isn't all that useful). I definitely support having the tables on all of the various deceased lists, such as the List of supercentenarians who died in 2004, be sortable. I don't really care either way on this page or any of the other living supercentenarian pages. Dexter111344 (talk) 21:47, 15 October 2013 (UTC)
I have requested semi-protection. DerbyCountyinNZ (Talk Contribs) 00:51, 20 October 2013 (UTC)
I'm thinking that having the list of "other reports" being sortable would help when it comes to removing those whose last update was past whatever the time limit is for that. Might also be a good idea over on Longevity claims, at least for the "recent" table. Seanette (talk) 02:50, 22 October 2013 (UTC)

Les Centenaires Bretons EklaBlog: a reliable source or not?

Should we consider the Les Centenaires Bretons EklaBlog a reliable source or not? It is an excellent source for confirmation of latest birthdays of French supercentenarians that are unreported elsewhere. It has been rejected as being a reliable source before, but it has just been used as confirmation that French supercentenarian Chane Koane reached her most recent birthday, so we should decide whether to use it or not as confirmation for French supercentenarians whose birthdays are otherwise unreported. Verne2000 (talk) 00:36, 23 October 2013 (UTC)

Oops! That's my fault, I forgot about the earlier edit, and tbo, didn't even read the url. The blog looks much more reliable than most blogs, in fact better than a lot of news articles! I've reverted as WP:BLOGS says

Never use self-published sources as third-party sources about living people, even if the author is an expert, well-known professional researcher, or writer.

So our opinion of this source is irrelevant, we can't use it. DerbyCountyinNZ (Talk Contribs) 00:59, 23 October 2013 (UTC)

Bernando Lapallo

I'm removing CrazyCoyote100's edit of adding Bernando Lapallo. Robert Young and the GRG have already investigated him and he isn't 112. See here and CTRL-F "Bernando". Other searches for him give his age at 105 maximum. Ancestry.com says he was born in 1910 as does a search here. However, this says he was born in 1909. While the 1930 and 1940 census suggest 1908. This article here restates he was born in 1910. Whatever his birthdate is, it definitely isn't 1901 so I'm removing him. CommanderLinx (talk) 02:44, 22 October 2013 (UTC)

I've added a sentence in the section header for cases such as this, where a published, reliable, source states that the claimed age is in doubt, the person should not be included. DerbyCountyinNZ (Talk Contribs) 03:38, 22 October 2013 (UTC)

The criteria for the pending list in this article are clearly explained. No amount of original research overrides that. If/when she is included in the pending list of an appropriate organisation then she can be included, until then she belongs in Longevity claims. DerbyCountyinNZ (Talk Contribs) 06:09, 30 December 2013 (UTC)
"She is listed in the U.S. Census of 1900."

Um, no she isn't. This census match is one of the problems this case has. She's claiming 1898, the 1910 census suggests 1899 but she can't be found in the 1900 census. So was she born in 1898, 1899 or 1900? Social Security isn't 100% either, Salustiano Sanchez was verified with a 1901 birth date but SS said he was born in 1902. CommanderLinx (talk) 03:30, 31 December 2013 (UTC)

She has a marriage license issued in July of 1915 that says she is 17 years old. This proves she was born in 1898. Or at the very least is the one document she needs for the pending list. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.253.155.86 (talk) 15:01, 2 January 2014 (UTC)

Joint 'World's Oldest Men'?

Following the death of Arturo Licata, and prior to the possible verification of Wash Wesley's claim, do we not technically have joint oldest living men? Because when Sakari Momoi was born on 5 February 1903 in Japan, it may have still been 4 February in Poland. So unless there are times given on one or both of the birth certificates, we don't know whether he or Alexander Imich was born first. Of course it is more likely to have been Dr Imich, but we don't know for sure. Pistachio disguisey (talk) 00:13, 25 April 2014 (UTC)

No. Previous discussions resulted in consensus that no differentiation be made for where in the world different people reside as unknown variable would make this too impractical. DerbyCountyinNZ (Talk Contribs) 00:41, 25 April 2014 (UTC)

Location and time variance

Table E is listing the oldest verified male as #66 among all supercentenarians, being born on February 4, 1903; and the second oldest verified male is listed as being #67 born on February 5, 1903. The birthplace for #66 is listed as the former Russian Empire, which used the Old Style (Julian) calendar system up until 1918 after the Bolshevik revolution, so that February 4, 1903 in the Russian Empire corresponds to February 17, 1903 in the Gregorian calendar system being used in most of the rest of the world (including Japan, which is given as the birthplace of #67). Thus the birth sequence of #66 and #67 in real time may be different than the ordering by calendar date on the birth certificate. Another minor uncertainty in birth order arises from the multiple time zone separation of the European area of the Russian Empire from Japan, so that some of early February 5 in Japan precedes some of late February 4 in eastern Europe. Mooseburger (talk) 16:48, 25 May 2014 (UTC)

How GRG lists dates and ages is nothing to do with Wikipedia, we only use the data as per the source, and besides this subject has been discussed many times before with the consensus that as the time of birth is unknown taking the time zone into account is irrelevant/unfeasible. DerbyCountyinNZ (Talk Contribs) 17:52, 25 May 2014 (UTC)
Dr Imich was born January 22 according to his original birth record. So it has already been adapted to the Gregorian calendar system. Plus he was born at 11AM and the time zone difference with Japan from where he was born was only 8 hours, so Sakari cannot be older. Petervermaelen (talk) 23:53, 29 May 2014 (UTC)

Re Other cases and Longevity claims

There is a proposal on Talk:Longevity claims to change the cutoff for unverified cases from 113 to 115 (or vice versa?). However, this page is unchanged, so unverified claims for ages 113 and 114 are absent from both pages. Is there a new page in between? Where should they be? -- Jevanyn talk 20:29, 18 August 2014 (UTC)

The change was from 113 to 115 and therefore the 113 and 114 cases were removed (by me). I don't think there is anywhere they should be, as with other fanfluff of this nature I would expect one or more users will create appropriate user page(s) like this, or something like this. DerbyCountyinNZ (Talk Contribs) 04:23, 19 August 2014 (UTC)
I have to agree. I wondered when I saw this what the idea here was to remove those claims - until I saw how many 115+ claims alone there are out there. Once we have lists that are well over a hundred, then we need to revisit the criteria. Even into the 90s, the number of people living past 110 was counted in the dozens. That is no longer the case. Canada Jack (talk) 14:01, 19 August 2014 (UTC)
An indication as to how common it is now to have people this old, take a look at the history of the oldest people. Delina Filkins held the record for oldest person ever for decades. Born in 1815 and died in 1928, she lived 113 years, 214 days. Her record was only surpassed in 1980 by Fannie Thomas, born 1867, who lived to 113 years, 283 days. So it took 67 years into the 19th century before someone was born who lived 113 years, 215+ days. Look at the current list. Opal Thompson, born 13 DAYS into the 20th century, has already surpassed Filkins' age. And if she doesn't live two months more to be as old as Thomas - the all-time record holder as of 1981 - there are already 5 more confirmed 113-year-olds living, one of whom likely will. Think of it - it took only two weeks into the 20th century to produce someone who would pass the all-time oldest person record which stood until 1980. And soon we will have someone - perhaps Thompson - surpass Thomas' record as of 1981 - reach an age not matched until Matthew Beard in 1985! Canada Jack (talk) 20:52, 19 August 2014 (UTC)

Where's the July 15th update?

I see no reason for the lists to be center-aligned. This goes for all longevity articles. As most relevant articles are now semi-protected (for the next year) it seems unlikely that the current slow edit-war will continue. Emma Morano

Please note that Emma Morano's name should not be reported as "Morano-Martinuzzi" because it is not a double-barrelled name. She was just Emma Morano and was known as such until she married mr Martinuzzi. Following Italy's naming customs, they added the husband's surname after her surname (naming custom: Name Originalsurname Husbandssurname). But it's not a double-barrelled name case. That's why she is reported in Italian media as "Emma Morano Martinuzzi" or just "Emma Morano". Alternatives in Italy are "Emma Morano coniugata Martinuzzi" (coniugata means "married to"), "Emma Morano in Martinuzzi", and may sometimes be mentioned as "Emma Martinuzzi". No hypen in any case. This is just a minor issue, but what is the result if the date of birth from the Gerontology Group differ from a reported date of birth in the media? I take it that we would likely go by the Gerontology Research Group, but I ask since it seems that the date of birth for Anna Stoehr is a few days off. --Super Goku V (talk) 06:44, 13 October 2014 (UTC)

I expect this is a case of the celebration of the birthday not taking place on the actual day itself. Unless there is a contradictory date of birth given we stick with the more reliable source. DerbyCountyinNZ (Talk Contribs) 07:08, 13 October 2014 (UTC)

Unverified GRG listings included here

Pointless since a different version was protected.-- Ricky81682 (talk) 22:10, 14 August 2015 (UTC)

The following are the unverified GRG listings that were merged into this table. Please respond in the appropriate subheader if there's an objection to including them. Please focus on the sources that were listed next to each name. Objections that are solely based on "GRG hasn't verified or lists them as pending" are pointless and circular. Look at the source that were included and if it seems like nonsense, then it can be removed. I'm an admin so I can do it directly but if there's a dispute here, anyone can make their own request (see Template:Edit fully-protected) and let another admin handle it. I want to make sure it's fair here. -- Ricky81682 (talk) 21:01, 14 August 2015 (UTC)

Responding to them all

Sorry, but this is bordering on WP:Original Research. It shouldn't be down to some users on Wikipedia to decide whether or not a claim is "nonsense" or not. If you continue as you are, we will have to do this for EVERY SINGLE CLAIMANT. So what's better: use original research to kind of have a rough guess as to whether or not we think some claims are true, and mix them in with verified entries, or have a black and white rule which states that only verified cases are included? And please be sure to read my post in the section above. Ollie231213 (talk) 22:56, 14 August 2015 (UTC)

Explain this

Ivy Frampton is listed in the list of british supercentenarians, but not in the list of living siupercentenarians. Why isn't she in the list of living supercentenarians? Deaths in 2013 (talk) 05:24, 1 December 2014 (UTC)

Because this article requires that there be confirmation that the person was alive in the last year, the British supercentenarian article does not. The reference used there is inadequate for this article. DerbyCountyinNZ (Talk Contribs) 09:40, 2 December 2014 (UTC)

110 or 111??

It looks like the table has a minimum age of 111 and not 110. Georgia guy (talk) 19:42, 14 December 2014 (UTC)

That is because the GRG now only lists verified supercentenarians aged 111 or more. If they, or any other appropriate organisation, publish any verified supercentenarians aged 110 then they will be included. DerbyCountyinNZ (Talk Contribs) 03:04, 15 December 2014 (UTC)
Did you bother to scroll down the page, Georgia guy, before changing all the name of the page to "111"?! There are something like 100 people on the list who are 110! Putting aside the basic requirement for a page with numerous editors and frequent updates to gain a consensus before such a fundamental change, the GRG may not currently list any verified people under 111, they most certainly list numerous people 110 who are not verified but are pending, let alone the stack of other unverified cases. Are we going to chop off everyone under 111 on those lists too?
I appreciate that Georgia Guy was operating in good faith, but next time, better to get a consensus on such a basic change (the title now contradicts the content). Who is going to change all these pages back? Canada Jack (talk) 15:09, 15 December 2014 (UTC)
It's a list of unverified people. The list of verified people has no one 110. If you move the page back, you'll have to add the 110-year-olds. Georgia guy (talk) 15:12, 15 December 2014 (UTC)
Georgia, take a look at the page and the title. "Verified" cases aren't what the page lists, it is only ONE of the lists. We list living people 110+ under three lists: the first is verified - none at the moment under 111; the second is partially verified - with a number of 110-year-olds; the third is unverified, dozens of people who are 110. So please revert your changes, or someone else will do it for you. As Derby pointed out, GRG currently does not have any verified 110-year-olds on their list, if and when one is verified, there will be 110-year-olds on the "verified" list notwithstanding the 100 or so already on the page.
This reminds me, has there been any discussion about whether this list should be split into separate articles for verified and unverified people?? Georgia guy (talk) 15:52, 15 December 2014 (UTC)
Yes. I believe I suggested it at one point. DerbyCountyinNZ (Talk Contribs) 03:15, 16 December 2014 (UTC)
I strongly disagree with the moving of this page. As CanadaJack says it is now inappropriately named, there are many 110 year old in the pening and unverified sections. That this was done without any proper discussion let alone consensus seems to me to violate multiple wiki guidelines. That there are no current verified 110-year-olds is nothing to do with wiki editors, there is no "you'll have to add the 110-year-olds". Why"? There are none to add (at the moment). All the 111 years olds are by definition supercentenarians, just because there is currently no-one on the verified list under 110 does not make that description (and article titel) inaccurate. DerbyCountyinNZ (Talk Contribs) 03:22, 16 December 2014 (UTC)

WP:BLPN notice

I started a discussion at Wikipedia:Biographies_of_living_persons/Noticeboard#Unverified_supercentenarians regarding two issues: is GRC the only basis we consider a RS for listing here? I think that's contrary to the general policy of using reliable sources but one could argue that any other claim falls under WP:FRINGE so I don't know. However that leaves the articles that GRC has not verified: should they be listed even though there are no reliable sources that support it? Should they kept if there are other reliable sources for it which means that GRC isn't the only basis for the claims? Or we could have GRC along with ones that have other reliable sources but ones that are unverified by GRC and have no other sources should be removed. Feel free to comment there. -- Ricky81682 (talk) 18:25, 22 December 2014 (UTC)

As it is This article is mainly just a duplication of the GRC article, which a link would serve just as easily. Williamb (talk) 21:34, 31 December 2014 (UTC)

Country in tables

User:Kachelus keeps removing the country from one individual the table Verified living supercentenarian, (Eudoxie Baboul), whose article describes her as French and the verified oldest living French person. Ok, my fault. I forgot to explain, sorry. Why should be mentioned France after French Guiana, but not United States after US Virgin Islands and France after Mayotte (look at the pending and not verified cases)? I cannot understand. All the time it was a clear line, country and regions were mentioned and now this changend, but only in one and not in three cases. Why? --Kachelus (talk) 06:09, 26 June 2015 (UTC)
French Guiana is an overseas region of France, but is still considered a proper region of the country, even though it is not in Metropolitan France. It does therefore make sense to write "French Guiana, France". The same goes for Mayotte. However, the U.S. Virgin Islands is an Unincorporated territory of the United States, so not properly part of the country. -- Ollie231213 (talk) 08:51, 26 June 2015 (UTC)
I think that is a good explanation, User:Ollie231213. French Guiana is a considered an integral part of France, not separate like a territory. No harm intended, just better to discuss and explain your reasoning User:Kachelus, as I did in my edit summaries :) AusLondonder (talk) 09:06, 26 June 2015 (UTC)

Country flags in table

I added the flags and was reverted. I don't understand how this violates WP:MOSFLAG, it actually looks to me like classic usage. —Ynhockey (Talk) 18:14, 28 June 2015 (UTC)

WP:MOSFLAG states that flags should only be used if the subject is representing their country (such as athletes in the Olympics). Otherwise, nationality should not be emphasised. In the case of supercentenarians, while their nationality is of interest, it's not the most important thing about them and they are not representing their country, so flags shouldn't be used. -- Ollie231213 (talk) 21:47, 28 June 2015 (UTC)
Actually, for lists/tables, it says: "In lists or tables, flag icons may be relevant when such representation of different subjects is pertinent to the purpose of the list or table itself.". Someone decided that specifying each person's country in this list is important, which by definition means that it's "pertinent to the purpose of the list or table itself". If it's not pertinent, the entire country column should be removed from the table. Personally I don't see what's wrong with it. —Ynhockey (Talk) 17:26, 4 July 2015 (UTC)
