Delete Santiago

[edit]

Santiago is not a city, it is a metropolitana.... It has many cities (municipios), such as Santiago, Vitacura, Providencia, Estaciono Central, etc. Needs to be deleted from this list — Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.132.128.26 (talk) 16:48, 28 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Fix Philadelphia and Phoenix

[edit]

Someone needs to fix Philadelphia and Phoenix. The 2010 census shows that Phoenix did not overtake Philadelphia as the 5th largest city in the US. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.124.132.160 (talk) 07:58, 27 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Source?

[edit]

What source do the populations come from? TimBentley 19:28, 24 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Philadelphia

[edit]

Philadelphia has less than 1,500,000 people. Is the number here the metropolitan area? What is the source for the other population numbers? --DThomsen8 (talk) 02:40, 1 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Changes

[edit]

I changed the list so that the numbers are for the city and not the metropolitan area. It also now goes to fifty, about the cut off at one million. SoCal L.A. (talk) 00:53, 10 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Buenos Aires is in 9th place, instead of Toronto (pictures)--81.36.211.132 (talk) 13:37, 15 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Santo Domingo de Guzman

[edit]

Why isn't Santo Domingo de Guzman in the Dominican Republic on the list of the largest cities in the Americas?

/// Exactly, Santo Domingo should be the 9th largest city according to the lastest population numbers. http://www.citypopulation.de/world/Agglomerations.html

Guayaquil

[edit]

|- | 16 || Guayaquil || Ecuador Ecuador || 2,366,902[1] || 2008 |-

It was originally ranked 12th, and since it's population is not higher than Toronto orginally at 14th .. I moved it down to its respective spot #16 --+Zack 00:52, 7 February 2011 (UTC)AddZack

Update

[edit]

This list needs to be updated with Census information released in the year 2010. This includes data from American, Brazilian, and Mexican agencies. 08OceanBeachS.D. 01:39, 16 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

They already look updated? Elockid (Talk) 01:45, 16 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Upon review, American and Brazilian cities are, but Mexican cities are not. For instance, Tijuana's population is off by about 300 thousand. Also, don't know what other countries have released 2010 census information, so that may need to be checked. 08OceanBeachS.D. 01:48, 16 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
INEGI looks to be down at the moment. The data here is upon the first release of the 2010 census. I don't know if they revised their city populations, if they did they could be different. Canada I know has their census this year, so we can probably await their data late this year or next year. Some Spanish-speaking countries also do 2011 censuses I think. Elockid (Talk) 01:55, 16 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I updated Mexican cities with census references found in List of largest cities in Mexico. 08OceanBeachS.D. 04:01, 16 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Populations

[edit]

Why are the populations different on this page from the ones on the cities' pages? Does it have to do with the 2011 estimate? --[[User:UnknownFork|<span style="color:green">'''UnknownFork'''</span>]] [[User_Talk:UnknownFork|<span style="color:black">'''Talk'''</span>]] (talk) 01:23, 17 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Because a vandal decided to vandalize the page. I've reverted them. Elockid (Talk) 01:28, 17 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Is it population by city limits or metro area?

[edit]

This list badly needs to be corrected. Some cities are measured using the total metropolitan population (like Santo Domingo) which is wrong. Cities are defined by city proper. If metro area populations are included then NY would have more than 21 million people not 8.
