Sharleen Spiteri, Annie Lennox, Tina Turner, Cyndi Lauper
[edit]Sharleen Spiteri, lead singer of the Scottish band Texas is a massive lesbian icon. She appeared in the lesbian lifestyle magazine "Diva" many times and repeatedly denied being lesbian. She has a massive lesbian audience and when she became a drag king, as Elvis, in the video for the Texas song "Inner Smile", it was extremely popular with lesbian audiences.
Annie Lennox (Eurythmics) is a gay and lesbian icon, due to her androgynous appearance, her campness (many of the Eurythmics videos are quite camp, e.g. There Must Be an Angel (Playing with my Heart), and her tireless support of the LGBT community and AIDS foundations.
Tina Turner is a gay icon. One of the key factors that makes a woman an icon with gay men, is her ability to survive tragedy and triumph over insurmountable odds. Tina Turner embodies this.
