Is this right?
[edit]"Sales rounded to the nearest 100 where available; a more precise figure is given in the reference."
Firstly, should 100 be 1000, but secondly, is this sentence actually supposed to read:
"Sales rounded to the nearest 100; where available, a more precise figure is given in the reference."

The list has 61 Albums
[edit]The list has 61 entries, shouldn't it be 60, 70, 75 or something like that? as 61 is an unusual number for a list. — Preceding unsigned comment added by TriPiece (talk • contribs) 20:41, 20 June 2022 (UTC)
- @TriPiec: No particular opinion about having 61 albums. But I removed REM's album (ranked at 61), because don't have references, per WP:BURDEN. --Apoxyomenus (talk) 20:45, 20 June 2022 (UTC)
Automatic For The People is missing
[edit]As the article says “sales, where shown are from the reference given, which may be at a different date, and cannot infer changes in position” Automatic For The People appears in the original list, however it doesn’t appear on the article. 82.26.167.230 (talk) 18:59, 26 August 2022 (UTC)

Definitely Maybe
[edit]There have been a number of reversions recently regarding whether or not Definitely Maybe should be included in this list. This seems to based on how the album has been awarded 8× Platinum status by the BPI, representing 2.4 million sales. For the last few years, the source of truth for this article has been the OCC's "Best-selling albums of all time", but that page is clearly a few years out of date, as there are several albums that we would expect to see in it that aren't (e.g. Divide by Ed Sheeran, Christmas by Michael Bublé, In the Lonely Hour by Sam Smith). If the Wikipedia community decides that this article needs to be overhauled completely to reflect the BPI's certifications instead of the OCC's list, then I'll go with the consensus. But, in any case, Definitely Maybe wouldn't be one of the 60 best-selling albums in the UK (the three albums I just listed are all certified Platinum at least nine times over, which would push it off the table), so I'm removing it from the list again. Thanks, A Thousand Doors (talk | contribs) 19:36, 5 September 2022 (UTC)
No it is not OK to remove it as it is has passed 2.4 m sales on a reliable source not from some Mickley mouse article. when other albums on the list have sold less. I want it reinstated please 92.251.163.164 (talk) 00:32, 6 September 2022 (UTC)
- Then you need to seek consensus that the list uses up to date certifications (which include streaming btw) as clearly explained above. Still not guaranteed it will make the list though, as it won't be the only 'new entry'. Btljs (talk) 14:08, 6 September 2022 (UTC)
The so called bible of a list is 6 years old so figures are way out Definitely maybe along with MG and the singles collection Time Flies have been in the charts nearly continuously since 2018, they are getting up there MG is going over 5m sales in the next week or two, BPI Certs are far more reliable 89.204.183.102 (talk) 01:41, 12 September 2022 (UTC)
Missing an album by Elton John
[edit]I noticed the list is missing Elton John's compilation album "The Very Best of Elton John", which according to the source ([1]https://www.bpi.co.uk/award/7424-2982-2) was certified 9 times platinum for selling over 2.7 million copies 146.241.93.103 (talk) 22:36, 31 December 2024 (UTC)
= Sheeran
[edit]The articles on Wikipedia show that ÷ sold more than ×. But this article says otherwise. Why? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A00:23C8:E414:1F01:25D8:DC15:EA57:1CC3 (talk) 01:43, 9 January 2025 (UTC)
- The positions of the albums in this list are from July 2016, so the article is pretty out-of-date and therefore probably wrong. Unfortunately, it's still the most recent update that the Official Charts Company has published, so there's not really much else that we can use. Hopefully the OCC might provide a new update for the album chart's 70th birthday next year. Thanks, A Thousand Doors (talk | contribs) 14:10, 10 January 2025 (UTC)
- I don't think it's a good idea to depend on one source. The list is outdated because it uses a 9-year-old article, and we cannot wait until they publish something in the future. Even if OCC doesn't publish the data publicly, BPI uses that data for the certification process. TheWikiholic (talk) 18:37, 10 January 2025 (UTC)
- @TheWikiholic: You're probably right, actually. I'll make a start on rewriting the table based on certification level as soon as I have the time. It looks as though, annoyingly, the BPI's website no longer ranks albums by certification level, so I'll have to go through and check each album one by one, which will take a while... - Now done. If anyone has any feedback, please let me know. Thanks, A Thousand Doors (talk | contribs) 12:36, 16 January 2025 (UTC)
- Isn't it more appropriate to arrange albums based on their certification dates rather than their release dates? I mean, certifying earlier usually means meeting the threshold first. What do you think? TheWikiholic (talk) 14:39, 17 January 2025 (UTC)
- @TheWikiholic: Maybe, but then we'd need to add a Certification Date column to the table, which would bring its total number of columns up to nine. Personally, I think we risk making the list look cluttered then. A Thousand Doors (talk | contribs) 23:03, 17 January 2025 (UTC)
