A little project for this page
[edit]I don't have time to do anything about this now, so I'm gonna mention it here in case somebody else wants to get started on it. The "assumed office" column currently sorts alphabetically, rather than chronologically, so we need to insert sort values into that column so that it sorts in the usual, expected manner. Career Foreign Service Officers
[edit]The key at the top of this article clearly states that career Foreign Service Officers (FSOs) should be identified in white. Two previous editors have destroyed these identifications and I have endeavored to revert their edits each time. A third editor has done this again recently, and I do not have the time or energy to revert these edits a third time.
Is there a way to more reliably differentiate political appointees from FSOs that does not rely on color code? – Maliepa (talk) 14:23, 22 July 2020 (UTC)
- Also, ambassadors appointed by Barack Obama and confirmed by the Senate should not be listed as "acting" ambassadors under the Trump administration. – Maliepa (talk) 14:23, 7 August 2020 (UTC)
Requested move 27 December 2021
[edit]- The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
The result of the move request was: Moved to "List of ambassadors appointed by Donald Trump": This is a list, and the consensus is to remove the "United States' qualifier. (non-admin closure) Spekkios (talk) 03:29, 6 January 2022 (UTC)
United States Ambassadors appointed by Donald Trump → List of United States ambassadors appointed by Donald Trump – Per MOS:JOBTITLES, here 'United States ambassador' acts as the name of an office, not as a title, so it should not be capitalized. Furthermore, I think 'List of' should be added to match, e.g., List of United States Ambassadors appointed by Joe Biden and List of United States Attorneys appointed by Donald Trump. Frenzie23 (talk) 14:14, 27 December 2021 (UTC)

- Move back to Ambassadors appointed by Donald Trump per WP:PRECISE and WP:CONCISE. Unlike "United States Attorney", "United States Ambassador" is not a title and not a proper noun. There is no need for "United States" either as a part of the ambassadors' title or for disambiguation, since all ambassadors appointed by Trump are naturally ambassadors of the United States. Station1 (talk) 06:36, 28 December 2021 (UTC)
- Support (and remove unnecessary precision): It should not be capitalised when plural (per kings of France example at MOS:JOBTITLES). Per Station1, "United States" is unnecessary over-precision and the title should be made more concise. It is also clearly a list article. Per Wikipedia:Naming conventions (lists), they are conventionally formatted "List of X" but this is not mandatory. It would be more concise without it and plural "ambassadors" clearly indicates that it is a list.Cinderella157 (talk) 00:22, 29 December 2021 (UTC)
- Move to List of ambassadors appointed by Donald Trump. It is a list and Trump didn't appoint ambassadors from any other country. Not any form of official title, so doesn't need capitalisation. -- Necrothesp (talk) 13:31, 29 December 2021 (UTC)

RFC Should Donald Trump's ambassador appointments use the same or different list articles for each of his terms?
[edit]The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
I'm currently WP:NPP patrolling and came across the recently created List of ambassadors appointed by Donald Trump (2025–2029). I want to gauge consensus on whether List of ambassadors appointed by Donald Trump should be the master article for both of his terms, or whether we should have seperate articles for each term, like the one recently created.
- Option 1: Delete List of ambassadors appointed by Donald Trump (2025–2029) and use List of ambassadors appointed by Donald Trump for nominations during both terms.
- Option 2: Rename List of ambassadors appointed by Donald Trump to List of ambassadors appointed by Donald Trump (2017-2021) and keep both pages, one for each term in office.
MolecularPilot 🧪️✈️ 05:12, 16 December 2024 (UTC)
- Support option 2, as this will minimise cluttering and ensure readers can find what they want easier. A "See also" section on each article pointing to the other one could also be considered. MolecularPilot 🧪️✈️ 05:26, 16 December 2024 (UTC)
- Oppose both, Support renaming List of ambassadors appointed by Donald Trump to List of ambassadors appointed by Donald Trump (2017-2021) to be consistent with Trump's actual term and with the other article. Feeglgeef (talk) 06:57, 16 December 2024 (UTC)
- Oops, thanks for catching my date mistake. Option 2 has been corrected now! :) MolecularPilot 🧪️✈️ 07:21, 16 December 2024 (UTC)
- Option 2 Since there's a break in all of their terms, they don't really need to be combined. Reywas92Talk 21:11, 16 December 2024 (UTC)
