This article is not properly named
[edit]What the heading says. The Hero of This Nation (talk) 17:40, 8 April 2010 (UTC)
- What do you suggest renaming it to? - Tantek (talk) 14:45, 8 February 2018 (UTC)
IATA numeric designator.
[edit]In addition to the 2char IATA airline identifier. IATA also issues a numeric identifier to each member airline.
Can we please add the numeric IATA identifier of airline to the Codes table (as a new column) ?
Examples:
AirCanada = 14
Continental = 5
American = 1
Lufthansa = 220
BA = 125
UA = 16
EY = 607

- Yes, we could. The question is do we want to add that? I don't really have a position right now. I will add that if there is a consensus to add this, we will need a program to update the existing tables to add the space for the new code. Once that is done, anyone can easily add the code at their leisure. Vegaswikian (talk) 19:38, 16 August 2010 (UTC)
- EXCELLENT IDEA !!! 173.32.157.204 (talk) 17:29, 17 August 2010 (UTC)
- Alternatively you could for now add the information to the comments column (as suggested for the callsigns below) - Tantek (talk) 14:45, 8 February 2018 (UTC)
Additional Callsigns / Callsigns No longer Used
[edit]Federal Express uses (or once used) callsign "EXPRESS", as you can confirm by seeking out and listening to, or reading the transcript of, the voice recording of the flight 705 takeover attempt incident. Is that callsign still used at all? Was it only ever "unofficial"? That seems to me to be unlikely, as the popular abbreviation "FEDEX" (currently shown in the table) is a more obvious and instantly recognizable choice. Since the table includes callsigns of defunct operators, is there any reason why it shouldn't show deprecated callsigns of existing operators? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.251.53.63 (talk) 08:45, 29 February 2012 (UTC)
- Material like that can go in the comments column. Vegaswikian (talk) 20:07, 29 February 2012 (UTC)
Visionair?
[edit]Any insights on Visionair (ICAO VAT), listed as Ireland-based? The redirected hyperlink is obviously wrong, and the other Vision Air entries are not pertinent here. Thoughts? jxm (talk) 15:39, 24 August 2017 (UTC)
Lay out
[edit]Can some-one take a look at the lay-out and change it accordingly (between S and T there is See also till References included so table is lost) and I can't seem to change it as it only contain "add-in data". Thank you - Bramvr (talk) 20:00, 19 January 2018 (UTC)
Broken table of codes
[edit]The table of codes appears to be broken and partially shown as wikitext in the clear just below external references. Perhaps someone familiar with editing this page could take a look? - Tantek (talk) 14:45, 8 February 2018 (UTC)
- @Tantek and Amayzes: Fixed with these edits. It seems that Visual editor doesn't understand
<onlyinclude>...</onlyinclude>
tags, since it broke them in this edit and this one. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 21:51, 8 February 2018 (UTC)
More broken tables fixed
[edit]In mid-November 2018, this table was broken again in a few spots, as described in "Broken table of codes" above. The cause was also the same - <onlyinclude>...</onlyinclude>
tags in the wrong spot in a few of the "List of airline codes (letter)" articles. I fixed those articles, but since this is likely to happen again, here is a note about how it should look.
At the top of the table in the "List of airline codes (letter)" article, the opening tag needs to go on a new line, right after the last table header field. The opening "|-" should also be on the same line as the opening onlyinclude. It should look something like this:
! Country ! Comments <onlyinclude>|- |WB |WRB
At the bottom of the table in the "List of airline codes (letter)" article, the closing tag needs to go on a new line, right after the last "comment" field, by itself. The closing "|}" should be on the next line after the closing onlyinclude. It should look something like this:
|UZBEK |Uzbekistan |Founded on January 1, 2022. </onlyinclude> |}
If the table in this article is okay up to (for example) letter E, and then just has unformatted text for letter F, check the "List of airline codes (F)" article first. If the onlyinclude tags are in the right places in that article, then check the article for the previous letter, "List of airline codes (E)", to see if there is a problem there. 174.58.152.148 (talk) 03:57, 20 November 2018 (UTC)
- Thanks you very much for the clear example. The page was broken in multiple places again, so I've gone through all of the separate constituent pages and fixed the tags, again. 143.178.48.200 (talk) 18:03, 24 November 2021 (UTC)
