Bridger Walker

[edit]

Bridger Walker was named WBC ‘Honorary Champion’ - I feel this should be mention in the main article. https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/12142601/bridger-walker-dog-attack-wbc-honorary-champion/ — Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.42.185.200 (talk)

This article is a list for WBC world champions, not children that have been gifted a belt to cheer them up. I'm not sure if it's worth mentioning anywhere, it seems very trivial. – 2.O.Boxing 10:20, 13 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

How many trivial WBC belts do you have? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.42.185.200 (talk) 10:20, 15 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Still, the weight class "Bridgerweight" is missing in this article. There, a small note on this should be possible. This kid was trivial enough to have a new weight class named after him. Seems to be some kind of important for the WBC. --FyodorWO (talk) 21:01, 29 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@FyodorWO: bridgerweight isn't listed here because there hasn't been any champions yet. And this isn't the place for little side notes on who the weight class was named after. That belongs in the bridgerweight article itself (which it is). – 2.O.Boxing 01:39, 30 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Page Name

[edit]

Should this not also be named in the form List of WBC world title holders? See List_of_heavyweight_boxing_champions. MLA 15:51, 11 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

The Heavyweight title history was wrong. I added in Jimmy Ellis' title reign. 70.224.219.126 05:19, 10 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Jimmy Ellis never held the WBC title. He was the WBA champ only. MKil 14:17, 6 February 2007 (UTC)MKil[reply]

Minor Edits

[edit]

I edited Jermain Taylor's name on the list of Middleweight Champions. I also updated the number of successful title defenses from 0 to 1 as Taylor defeated Bernard Hopkins in December 2005. Shenzhou 02:36, 26 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

flagicons/nationalities and countries

[edit]

can we have all tables conform to just one system of naming their nationalities for the sake of consistency? i will edit this unilaterally if no one objects--RebSkii 17:04, 22 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Interim championship

[edit]

The interim championships make numbering difficult, but I don't think Hasim Rahman should be listed as the 25th and 26th heavyweight champion. If the champion didn't change the number shouldn't.--SaskatchewanSenator 20:25, 11 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

How many weight classes?

[edit]

The first paragraph says "The WBC is one of the four major governing bodies in professional boxing, and certifies world champions in 10 different weight classes", and then the rest of the article lists champions in 17 weight classes. Is the first paragraph wrong? Are 7 of those lists fake? 62.216.5.216 (talk) 11:17, 13 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The lead was wrong, I've corrected it. – 2.O.Boxing 11:58, 13 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Sources regarding the inaugural WBC champs

[edit]

Can anyone help in confirming about how the inaugural champs per weight class got their titles because some blogs that are found on google have conflicting results. For example, some say that the WBC awarded/recognized Sonny Liston as the heavyweight champ after WBC's inauguration while other sources say that he won the vacant WBC title after knocking out Patterson. Other champs with conflicting sources on how they got the WBC titles are (LHW) Harold Johnson, (W) Emile Griffith, (LW) Carlos Ortiz, (Superfeather) Gabriel Elorde, (BW) Eder Jofre, (Fly) Pone Kingpetch.

If for instance they were awarded after WBC's inauguration, it's better to also get an exact date rather than putting February 14 as the awarded date, which was the date of WBC's inauguration/first convention. Maybe we can find it on some mexican newspapers archives but I can't understand spanish. BlizzyBlizz (talk) 10:48, 22 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Most overall consecutive title defenses should be included.

[edit]

You could say it is redundant but so is having most title defense in each weight class and even the blue highlight to tell viewers who the current champion. that could also be considered redundant. so who is to say what is or isn't redundant 2601:3C5:8180:31D0:1535:2DBD:E08D:330A (talk) 04:45, 27 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I disagree with putting the most title defense in all of the weight class as a highlight. The present champion and most title defense per weight class have always been in this page since its major revision back in 2020. The most defense can be put at the top paragraph but not as a highlight. It only highlights 1 boxer out of all the tables in the page. 2 highlights for this page for the current champ and the most title defense of the weight class are more than enough.

BlizzyBlizz (talk) 16:45, 28 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Anyone can add to Wikipedia. It's not just a select few. You even said yourself "might as well add per weight class also." yet its there so why not this? You thinking its redundant doesn't meant anything. that's like me saying having Mike Tyson being the youngest Heavyweight champion is redundant. can you give another reason why? It's like taking a set of numbers and given the mean for the set. a lot of these records are numbers based so I am just taking it up a notch. It's not hurting the article at all. 2601:3C5:8180:31D0:65FC:6D83:D7AF:7F5 (talk) 20:42, 28 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Anyone can add in wikipedia but when changes were amended besides adding a new champ, it was discussed i.e. Flag icons were removed, Number of days column were removed, date format. More information is always better but in this case “the most consecutive title defenses in all of the weight classes”, it’ll be fine if that’ll be in the starting paragraph. We don’t have to put highlight on everything, especially if it highlights only one. BlizzyBlizz (talk) 23:51, 28 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • I don't find any of the colour coding to be very useful. The current champion is obviously the last one in the chronological list (as long as the end date says present). And shouldn't it be the champ that is highlighted rather than the dates of his reign?
  • I don't think I've ever wanted to know who defended one of the alphabet titles the most consecutively in a weight class or for all weight classes.
  • I agree that if we want to bring focus to who had the most defenses overall, write about it in the lead rather than adding a colour to the legend that will only be used once across all the tables.
  • If we do decide to add another colour coding to the table they need to be described more clearly than "Most consecutive title defenses" and "Most consecutive title defenses of the WBC belt" because it's not obvious what the difference is.--Jahalive (talk) 20:36, 29 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I understand where both you and BlizzyBlizz are viewing things. I do see the issue you are having with the current color-coding on the page considering List of IBO world champions doesn't have any of that at all and nobody seems to be confused. As for as my edit goes, I was trying to add more insight into which fighter had more success under x belt than any other fighter across all weight divisions. it may seem pointless, but you could say the same about a lot of boxing records. If someone besides Mike Tyson was the youngest heavyweight would any of us care? I doubt it. Do we have the youngest flyweight, middleweight, bantamweight listed as well or does only heavyweight matter? people's opinions can go in different directions on things they find cool and pointless. 2601:3C5:8180:31D0:65FC:6D83:D7AF:7F5 (talk) 21:40, 29 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
