Comments

[edit]
  • "typification details" is a teensy-weensy bit obscure. How about giving an example with the Linnaean name, the modern name (and wikilink), and photograph for one species? (Ideally with the date and author of the new name too).
  • The lichens are in the same herbarium?
Yes, and give an example of a pretty one! Chiswick Chap (talk) 18:34, 27 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Done, and doubled up the current image to include a lichen. Esculenta (talk) 18:57, 27 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • There is what looks like an uncited claim in 'Conservation and access'?
  • I'm really sorry for the late addition, but there's also uncited material at the end of the first paragraph of 'Comparison with other historical herbaria'.

Images

[edit]
  • It feels as if we are missing any sight of an actual herbarium sheet, or even a box of sheets. All the other images combine to give the impression of a conspiracy of silence ... it would be desirable to get access to take a photo at the LSL if there isn't a free one anywhere (I can go and do that if permission to do that is available, let me know). Or we could ask for one image to be released under CC-by-SA. Or the whole digitised collection, of course...
  • Their policy on images is explained here; looks like there's some hoops to jump through before permission is granted to take photographs. At any rate, I've sent an email to images@linnean.org to request permission to use the Linnaea borealis image you mention. Hopefully they will be receptive to the free advertising and positive vibes from this article! Esculenta (talk) 17:46, 27 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
OK, this isn't a show-stopper. I certainly think they'd do themselves a favour by sharing images or access, but I'll pass this now. Chiswick Chap (talk) 19:10, 27 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • If I was going to use just one under PD-art|PD-old-100 (if the sheet is flat), or fair use on the grounds that access is virtually unobtainable, I'd choose Linnaea borealis really. There are similar Swedish images, also in copyright.
No matter, but the engraving is certainly PD-Art|PD-old-100. Chiswick Chap (talk) 18:39, 27 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • All the images are from Commons and plausibly licensed.
  • The upright images should be ... |upright.

Sources

[edit]
  • All the sources I looked at are fine.
  • I notice in passing that you sometimes say Linnean Society and sometimes Linnean Society of London. No big deal.

Summary

[edit]

This article is about ready to go, I have only the most minor of comments. Chiswick Chap (talk) 14:02, 26 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi CC, thanks much for reviewing, will work on this over the weekend. Esculenta (talk) 16:52, 26 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
