Proposed way forward
[edit]Currently this page is inaccurate and unclear. Arguably the Petrograd Military Revolutionary Committee was Lenin's First Government (as per To the Citizens of Russia! The page does not discuss the inclusion of Left Socialist Revolutionaries into the Council of People's Commissars. Rather than trying to reshape this page I note that it has undergone a series of name changes, some quite recent, which have nothing to help. What I am proposing is that we have a page[[Council of People's Commissars]] which covers the original Council of People's Commissars up until the establishment of the RSRSR, which I would date from Fifth All-Russian Congress of Soviets, (July 4–10, 1918 from which the Constitution of the RSFSR (1918), after which the successor body should be the Council of People's Commissars (Russia) Council of People's Commissars of the Russian RFSR or Council of People's Commissars of the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic, all currently redirects. Or even Council of People's Commissars of Russia. I am less concerned about how we write the name than that we collectively decide on a consistent naming convention
I believe there should also be a discussion about the thinking which led to Councils of People's Commissars being formulated, the page on Sovietization radically changed and perhaps separated into the processes during the Russian Civil War, and subsequent processes during and around the Second World War. Finally the page should have a list of Councils of People's Commissars. I have already started on a couple of these: Council of People's Commissars of Belarus, Council of People's Commissars of Azerbaijan.
I feel that in light of the recent spate of redirects and radical alteration of pages it is important that we develop a more collaborative approach before making major changes. Leutha (talk) 10:06, 23 May 2019 (UTC)
- @Leutha: Yes, we need to clear out that mess with the Council of People's Commissars. First of all, we need a page that overviews political institution of the Council of People's Commissars and has a list of all Councils of People's Commissars: one All-Union and all republican ones. We had that page, before it was deleted. Then we need a page to the All-Union Council of People's Commissars, we have that page. Then we need pages about Councils of People's Comissars for every Soviet republic (Russian SFSR, Ukraine SSR, Belarus SSR, etc). That problem already formulated on the subsequent page of the Russian Wikipedia (ru:Совет_народных_комиссаров#Советы_народных_комиссаров). I think, that is the most rational approach.
