Re-regulation of the private rental sector by Labour

[edit]

The settee States:

This legislation should be seen in context with the Housing and Planning Act 1986 which gave councils the option of transferring housing stock to another private landlord (registered social landlord) and the Housing Act 1988 that deregulated the private rental sector for a few years until re-instated in 1991 by the Labour Party on regulated tenancies only, so now housing associations could charge what they liked, raise private investment, sell council houses etc.

How exactly did Labour reinstate regulation in 1991? They weren't in power then. They only took control of the government in 1997 and housing wasn't devolved in Wales until 1998. Hairy Dude (talk) 13:56, 30 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
