Parentage of the Lambrusco grape

[edit]

Depending on how old the Lambrusco varietal is, it may be hard to say, but is anything known about where/which varieties the lambrusco grape is derived from. Specifically, is there any relation to the grape species Vitis labrusca? -- 19:19, 26 August 2007 (UTC)

surely not. The scientific names are relatively recent, so maybe the name of Vitis labrusca derives from Lambrusco, but surely not the contrary. BTW the Partula labrusca could hit that labrusca has some meaning in Latin. Cate | Talk 16:25, 27 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
According to Jancis Robsinson's Vines, Grapes & Wines there is no relation between Lambrusco and Vitis labrusca-which is native to the US. AgneCheese/Wine 14:37, 22 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Labrusca in Latin is "wild vine". The derivation of the Lambrusco from labrusca surely seems plausible. --212.87.13.78 (talk) 01:07, 11 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

lambrusco did not become "hugely popular"

[edit]

Riunite brand, incredibly cheap, sweet sparkling wine became a super popular casual drink, advertised and sold by that brand, not as "lambrusco", sort of a Bartles and James type thing, not exactly a wine phenomenon at all. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.246.62.151 (talk) 00:55, 29 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

You got it wrong sorry

[edit]

Lambrusco is not a variety of grape, but a kind of wine, it may be done with a variety of grapes but the "lambrusco" strain of grape does not exist. Visconius (talk) 13:40, 15 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Errrm, you'd think the Italians, might know, wouldn't you? Martinevans123 (talk) 13:52, 15 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Visconius: "Il termine Lambrusco indica una serie di vitigni a bacca nera e il vino prodotto con questi." JacktheBrown (talk) 19:40, 17 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
