Image Change?
[edit]Honestly, that image of her is terrible. I'm sure there are many others available to use that are a bit more flattering. Anybody up for changing it? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.17.75.211 (talk) 00:45, 7 July 2010 (UTC)
Page lock suggestion
[edit]This page is being vandalised a lot due to Lady Sovereign's appearance on Celebrity Big Brother - Discography section is now a complete mess and the album and single facts are completely incorrect. Could someone please revert this article back to its correct state and then lock it. --86.134.8.74 (talk) 15:05, 18 January 2010 (UTC)
- I've reverted the discography section to an older revision. the accuracy may still need checking, but at least it looks OK now. a_man_alone (talk) 15:38, 18 January 2010 (UTC)
Plagiarism
[edit]I just have to point out that the entire first paragraph of this article was plagiarised from All Music Guide. It is taken from there verbatim and has no citation. "to be exact"?
[edit]I don't know how wikipedia dates work, but somebody should clean up the last sentence of par.2: "She is expected to release a studio album in 2006 October 3rd 2006 to be exact."
Style of music
[edit]- Before: Due to the commercial failure of her grime records, her label asked that she change her style of music to better suit pop/rap culture.
- After: Sorry but I personally had to remove that whole sentence. Record label did not tell me to change my music. you have to be in my mind to know my music properly. Anyway thats all. Just wanted to clear that up. [2] 80.0.13.76 (talk • contribs)
I reverted that change on Wikipedia:Verifiability and Wikipedia:Autobiography grounds but have tagged the previous sentence with a citation required tag. - The sound is clearly grime. Grime is of course related to hip hop music. The difference is that grime is raps on garage style electro influence beats and it's British. --193.171.131.249 16:57, 2 December 2006 (UTC) (de:Benutzer:Hagenk)

First played in North America
[edit]The date and location given for the first airplay in North America is wrong. I heard the song 'Love me or hate me' in Austin, TX at least as early as mid-July on 101x. In any event, it's unverifiable and doesn't really belong does it? 72.181.190.100 03:51, 6 September 2006 (UTC)

Early life
[edit]The entire article appears under the heading "Early Life". I am not sure how to split it up. Eli lilly 21:20, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
It also should be split up between being 'kicked' out of school (as she puts it) and being an MC, with the fact that she was the main actor in an independant film X-Ed (or I should say I don't know where it should go). You can read her mention it in an interview here http://www.supmag.com/checkit/archives/2005/12/lady_sovereign_2.html, and you can watch the movie here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0tf_DT93p0c . --Exore 07:51, 19 February 2007 (UTC)

Opinion rather than fact
[edit]A comment under "Early Life" states: "In the rap industry, school education is unnecessary, most other successful mainstream rappers to date didn't graduate high school."
The same could be said for ANY industry, if you happen to be naturally good at whatever it is you do for a living. Generally speaking, education is necessary to build one's skill level. Specific to rap/music, increasing one's vocabulary would certainly be beneficial. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 12.155.52.21 (talk) 20:03, 19 December 2006 (UTC).
Gay?

I was just about to say the same thing, but for some reason I'm guessing it's an immature attack on her; like someone calling something gay, so yeah..reference it please. Actually, I suggest we remove it until it is referenced. Oreo 2 January 2007

- I added it on 16/01/10 along with a <ref>Celebrity Big Brother 2010</ref> citation. She has openly discussed this with other housemates on two different occasions, the first being IIRC 12/01/10 and last night as well - 17/01/10. I can appreciate that you might not want to admit to watching CBB, (I'm only doing it because a username affords a degree of anonymity!) but that seems like a primary source to me. a_man_alone (talk) 14:45, 18 January 2010 (UTC)
If you want a source, UK editors can watch CBB online here: http://www.channel4.com/programmes/celebrity-big-brother/4od#3021674 at around the 9:30 mark where she discusses her sexuality, and coming out to her mother. Identity insecurity
[edit]She's clearly insecure about her racial identity, trying to emulate Afro- Caribbeans, only people who aren't clear with their people do that. Perhaps this should be mentioned in the article. 82.3.245.220 23:43, 13 February 2007 (UTC)
Problem is, your wrong. It's a trend, similar to goth or emo etc. Otherwise called 'chav' in Britain. There's loads of 'em.Slydevil 02:45, 25 February 2007 (UTC)
And being a chav/wigger is clearly evidence of sub-normal intelligence.
You're a moron. If a white person emulating Black musical culture to one degree or another is evidence of mental deficiency, than what about all the early rockers, bluesmen, jazzmen, etc., who emulated/imitated Black artists/culture? She's from London, a culturally diverse place with a large and culturally influential West Indian community. I suppose you think all white should play only classical music? Cultures will continue to meld as the world continues to spin, and artificial "racial" identities will continue to evolve, whether you like it or not. Get over it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.125.180.70 (talk) 15:44, 27 November 2007 (UTC)
I'd just like to say being a "chav" isn't a trend, it's a fucking disease. And the majority of people will agree on that. She's doing a style of music that's specific to fucking chavs, and if you actually listen to that crap you'll see what I mean. It isn't music.
There's a reason the majority of rappers have dropped her like a bad habit Megapeen (talk) 11:22, 9 November 2009 (UTC)

LOL what?
[edit]Unlike many British artists who sing or rap with American accents, Sovereign raps with a thick working-class London accent. She often makes fun of her peers for trying to sound American in their work.[9]
Erm... I know a fair bit about the UK hip hop scene and I can't think of a single MC who raps or sings with an American accent - that statement is entirely opinionated, and laughable too in my honest opinion. But one can't give a shout out to themselves, can they? :) I vote that it's an "AKA": "Make way for The S.O.V." - she is clearly using "The S.O.V." as a personal pronoun, so I think it rates above a mere shoutout. Tongue in cheek here, of course... Mjj808 (talk) 00:43, 9 January 2008 (UTC)

Def Jam and Island Records drop Lady Sovereign
[edit]With an album that has been delayed almost a year and a website that hasnt been updated in nearly as much. Can't credit it as a reliable source but a Fansite is reporting that she has been dropped, with official word of Louise's sister. This would inherintley explain the lack of material and to add to that Def Jam have removed Lady Sovereign from their website. Look on Island records website where she has also been removed from artists. 17:05, 30 October 2008
Again there has been no update of this page, it is evident that she has been dropped. Her latest single which isn't even listed here was also not released by either DefJam or Island. "Controversy" edit
[edit]As I did over on the So Human page, I changed this sentence: "Robert Smith has since gone on record saying he prefers the Thomas Jules version of the track." The sentence implies that Thomas Jules and Lady Sovereign did two versions of the same song, when in actuality they recorded two different song that sampled the same song by The Cure, and even then to different extents. Therefore I changed the sentence to: "Robert Smith has since gone on record saying he prefers the Thomas Jules track." That should clear up any misperception. 66.234.194.81 (talk) 19:07, 2 May 2009 (UTC)
- I removed this section completely. There were no sources to back up the assertions that she was "pushed" to sample The Cure by executives; that hearing the Thomas Jules track inspired her (or the executives) to sample Closer To Me; or even the existence of any controversy. A MySpace page isn't really a reliable source. –Megaboz (talk) 15:19, 2 July 2009 (UTC)
Current label situation
[edit]At the end of 2008 Lady Sovereign was dropped by both Island and Def Jam record labels cited upon removal from Def Jams' artist website. Lady Sovereign is currently signed to EMI division label 'Midget Records[21] with her new releases being made exclusive to digital downloads on iTunes. As of July 2009,She and Miley cyrus well be hooking up for a duet.Reports say Miley was not on board for this until,Lady called and biged her.Miley,Said ok.Miley also said shes not a mean perrson thats why she said yes.In august,a sample of the song was release. The full song well be released 10/14/09.the song is called "The rapper nd the Pop star".[2]tho she has no label the song well be produced bye hollywood records. Intro paragraph - deleted chav reference
[edit]In the intro paragraph describing LS's distinguishing features, I've deleted the recently-added 'chav' reference. It's not a matter of whether she is a chav or not, the problem is that it's not NPOV, and a description used as a term of abuse contravenes the Biography of Living Persons policy.

years active
[edit]"years active 2001-2010" and chapter on Jigsaw album "2009-2012" are in internal conflict here. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.56.50.172 (talk) 23:51, 8 March 2022 (UTC)
continuity
[edit]in the section covering 2006 it states she was signed to def jam records.
then without any mention of anything at all, the section covering 2009 basically starts off with something along the lines of: after a final dispute with island records, she released her next album independently.
there shouldnt be talk of a final dispute with island records without mentioning an inital dispute or without even any prior mention of island records whatsoever or why she was no longer with def jam.
this could be much cleaner. Snarevox (talk) 00:41, 11 April 2022 (UTC)
