Out of production?
[edit]On the Dutch wiki someone mentioned the fact that the car is still in production.
My Russian is very poor but when you check this site http://www.lada-auto.ru/ it looks that he or she might be right. 3wisemen (talk) 22:18, 29 March 2008 (UTC)
- 2108, 2109 and 21099 cars are out of production, but 2113, 2114 and 2115 cars with respectively same bodies are produced now. So, 2004 seems to be year of just old series production end, not of new one. KonstKaras (talk) 06:43, 1 July 2008 (UTC)
You're right. They stopped producing that sh-i-t, and now producing new sh-i-t. I'm from Russia, but i use import car. Can't even sit in our cars... Ver poor quality, comfort and less than 100 hp engines.... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 91.195.101.126 (talk) 22:04, 5 October 2008 (UTC)
Just to clarify on the grille issue, in the UK they sold a 1.3E which was the standard Russian production car unmodified. The 1.3L had lowered suspension to improve the handling and it had the grille replaced with a nicer one, along with wheel covers and a few other cosmetic changes. This work was done by the UK importers (Inchcape) before the cars were sent to dealers. Cars sold in the UK were often two years old by the time they were registered because of the length of time it took to import and convert them. The manufacture date is usually on the window glass and you can compare this to the registration year. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 90.201.30.228 (talk) 09:27, 19 November 2008 (UTC)
Relationship to VW Golf
[edit]We really need a source for this kind of assertion. The best I can do after a quick google is this one which states "Much of the Samara's suspension and running gear is conspicuously influenced by the VW Golf". Note that it doesn't say there was any official transfer of intellectual property between Volkswagen and AvtoVAZ, as there was with Fiat and the VAZ-2101. A lot of car models have been "influenced" by a competitor's model and I think it's misleading to suggest the Samara was anything more than that, unless other sources that say otherwise can be found. Letdorf (talk) 12:38, 20 July 2010 (UTC).
- Until someone can come up with something sourced (there is no mention of this on any of the other language Wikipedias I've checked either) I have removed the Golf parts. VAZ did purchase several western competitors and disassembled them (not only the Golf), but there certainly was no collaboration.
- I am curious about the level of Porsche's influence: Cars of the Soviet Union: The Definite History by Andy Thompson only states that while the engine was developed in-house, "the combustion chambers were developed in collaboration with Porsche" (p. 252). German language sources all state a close collaboration, while Russians also give credit to the Fiat Group engineering company UTS. Porsche seem to have been given VAZ prototypes and returned them with suggestions for improvements, but who knows who actually did what any longer. ⊂ Mr.choppers ⊃ (talk) 18:03, 20 July 2010 (UTC)
- Unfortunately, it looks like our friend at 86.30.217.115 still disagrees - I've warned the user against adding unverifiable content (again) on their user talk page. Letdorf (talk) 12:49, 21 July 2010 (UTC).
- It was published after USSR collapse, that the Samara largely based in Golf and that in the Avto-VAZ factory there was real VW Golf car what they used in their development work. The involvement of Porsche engineers in engine development was declared in USSR period also in corresponding papers. I also cant give at the moment exact sources, as there is around 20 years time cap between the appearance of this info and it needs a big work in library to dug all out. The prescence of Golf car in AvtoVAZ during development of 2108 is mentioned in Russian wikipedia alsoZosma (talk) 12:57, 21 July 2010 (UTC)
- No one doubts that VAZ looked very closely at the Golf I (as well as several others), the main problems with the assertions as they stood were:
- No sources, no documentation. Whether true or not, it has to be relatable to a source.
- In the infobox, VW Golf was being listed as a related develpment of the VW Golf, which wouldn't be acceptable for anything less than an outright clone á la the Chery QQ.
- Thanks for your work. ⊂ Mr.choppers ⊃ (talk) 20:23, 21 July 2010 (UTC)
- The Ford Escort (fwd) was "based" on the Golf. So was the Cavalier, Maestro, Colt (fwd), Corolla (fwd), and just about every modern fwd car. There doesn't appear to be any evidence that the Samara was a Golf copy.123.3.22.185 (talk) 09:49, 17 September 2011 (UTC)

Exports
[edit]The Samara was introduced to the Maltese Market in 1988 with the 3door version and later on with the 5door hatchback and 4doors sedan. Lada was sold in Malta until 1997, they stopped importing them because they stopped in the British market which means no more Lada right hand drive where produced which had to force the Lada importer in Malta to stop there importation. These car were very popular and had great sales, there are still many of them running on the road over 20years later. Lada Samara(written by 88.203.123.99) Zosma (talk) 09:41, 20 September 2011 (UTC)
