Poor image choice
[edit]Greater kurdistan is about where kurds used to settle in anceint time that is why we should use median empire image from median state article in wikipedia 185.187.76.204 (talk) 15:32, 11 May 2024 (UTC)
- im just curious why this map is sourced by the CIA? also the map of the southern caucus says it's from the CIA. is there like no actual maps for the Kurdish peoples that are more historic or like based on archeology or sociology?
- Ist the CIA really the leading source on where the Kurdish peoples are from? Seems strange that this even involves the CIA.
- Shouldn't we be looking at the science instead of something the CIA cooked up? What does the map look like based on leading Kurdish historians?
- Just feels strange to believe the CIA for something like this. 80.139.97.40 (talk) 22:04, 3 July 2024 (UTC)

For the the etymology of Kurdistan. In Kartvelian (georgian) კურდღელი, (K'urdgheli) means rabbit. During antiquities, the exonym of the region spanning from inner Georgia, to suth-eastern turkey, was 'Iberia', which same as the 'Iberian peninsula', means 'land of the rabbits'. 2001:16B8:C0AA:7B00:5C08:425A:D6CF:30F9 (talk) 01:44, 30 August 2024 (UTC)

Please Change Kurdistan (Kurdish: کوردستان, romanized: Kurdistan, lit. 'land of the Kurds'; [ˌkʊɾdɪˈstɑːn] ),<ref
Into Kurdistan ({{langx|ku|کوردستان|Kurdistan|lit=land of the Kurds}}; {{IPA-ku|ˌkʊɾdɪˈstɑːn||Ku-Kurdistan.oga}}),<ref; Potentially derived from Kartvelian, კურდღელი, K'urdgheli which means rabbit in english. The proximity to the 'Kingdom of Iberia' which was a Latin exonym and, ment same as with the modern Iberian peninsula, 'land of the rabbits' would make such a connection plausible.

- Look up further "lezgistan" (here on Wikipedia) where in the sub part, 'Historical etymology',it says, that ancient greek historians such as Strabo, Herodotus, and Pliny the Elder, call the people of the east coast of the Black sea (south Caucasus), 'Legoi'. The greek word for 'Hare'(male rabbit) is 'Lágos'.
- The sanskrit term for 'Hare' is शश zaza, which are also a people in Eastern turkey, who are direct neighbors of the Kurds.
- https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lezgistan
- Hope that is enough coincidental evidence to at least make the Kurdistan = 'land of the rabbits/hares'a reasonable conclusion, even though we can not outright declare that it is definitely the root of the name. 2001:16B8:C088:D00:5C08:425A:D6CF:30F9 (talk) 11:06, 30 August 2024 (UTC)
- I honestly, even would like to add the connection with Zaza being both, a Kurdish tribe that speaks a [[Zaza language|dialect of Kurdish]]/Kurdish that lives as direct neighbors to the Kurds, and the Sanskrit word for Hare, शश, as I think that this adds another layer to the possibility of Kurd, really being an exonym given by Kartvelian speakers.
- კურდღელი, (K'urdgheli, romanized), meaning Rabbit.

- Another word for, being phonetically not that far apart from the word Kurd, is the Farsi/Persian/Iranian خرگوش Khargoosh, romanized, meaning again 'rabbit' or 'hare'.
- Ofcourse there will be phonetic differences, as I'm sadly only capable of providing modern language examples. 2001:16B8:C088:D00:5C08:425A:D6CF:30F9 (talk) 11:50, 30 August 2024 (UTC)
Would like to add
[edit]I honestly, would even like to add,शश Zaza being the Sankrit word for Hare and the Zaza people speaking a dialect of Kurdish to the original change request. [1]https://www.learnsanskrit.cc/translate?search=Hare&dir=au 2001:16B8:C088:D00:5C08:425A:D6CF:30F9 (talk) 11:24, 30 August 2024 (UTC)
- sadly, I'm only capable of providing modern language examples, so the phonetic doesn't mach a 100%.
- But another word with simmilar phonetic to 'Kurd' is the Farsi/Persian/Iranian term for again 'rabbit'/'hare', خرگوش Khargoosh, romanized.
- A Romanization site for Persian script.
- I have not found a better one. 2001:16B8:C088:D00:5C08:425A:D6CF:30F9 (talk) 11:58, 30 August 2024 (UTC)

It’s not a very big change but… In this segment:
Main languages Arabic Kurdish Persian Turkish Zaza–Gorani
It’s more fitting and correct if Kurdish was the first language and then Arabic being the second. Since we’re Kurds and obviously have more Kurdish speakers rather than Arabic ones. The list may not have been in order but it’s quite misleading. Boring-suzan (talk) 00:20, 20 December 2024 (UTC)
