Suggested Edit: Add that she shot her goat twice in the gravel pit

[edit]

In the article here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kristi_Noem#No_Going_Back it states that Governor Noem decided to kill her goat. However according to the sources listed she then took her goat to the gravel pit where she shot her dog and shot her goat twice as well. Seems prurient to add that she followed through on her decision. 2601:2C3:800:B080:94FC:772:A71D:F5B8 (talk) 19:09, 6 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

OK. Someone else already added two shots, I added the location. starship.paint (RUN) 06:52, 7 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. 2601:2C3:800:B080:B08D:2B9F:6F81:A0D9 (talk) 19:27, 9 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Why is this in the article? It adds zero value, even the banner above the excerpt asks to trim it down due to it being only appreciated by a small very specific audience. Just because she said it in her book does not give it notability to be on this page. Please remove this entire entry. MaximusEditor (talk) 19:43, 12 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Create a "Controversy" section?

[edit]

Given the prominence of the dog and goat shooting incident on her public image, as well as false claims about meeting North Korea's leader, etc., do you think it would be advisable to move these details from "Personal Life" to a new section that can broadly encapsulate these controversies? There has already been some support to give the episode with the dog its own section. ChthonicSweetie (talk) 01:25, 21 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

We should not create a WP:CONTROVERSYSECTION. – Muboshgu (talk) 01:26, 21 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, this is helpful to me as a new editor. Would "Public Image" be more admissible, as suggested in the link you included? ChthonicSweetie (talk) 01:36, 21 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I did not realize how new you are here. Welcome. Glad I didn't WP:BITE you. A "public image" section could work, but would have to put the focus on how she is perceived for those things. – Muboshgu (talk) 01:50, 21 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Military service

[edit]

civil Air patrol does not qualify as military service. This needs to be removed as it is borderline stolen valor. Civil Air Patrol is not authorized to wear the GWOT medal because they are not part of the military. 2601:18C:8600:DA10:9C79:309A:395F:6D96 (talk) 00:19, 5 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I agree this should be removed. The language is provided without citation, and I can't find any source to support this. At best, it appears that the CAP makes legislators honorary members. So you might have at best an honorary member of a civilian auxiliary group. This should be deleted. Athoughtforyou (talk) 12:59, 5 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I agree, and I see its Done, deleted by Athoughtforyou (talk). Thanks. RogerYg (talk) 03:52, 6 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Effective September 11, 2022, the GWOT-SM is now awarded to service members only serving in the area of effect for approved campaigns related to the Global War on Terrorism. [1] This has nothing to do with her service as an officer in the Civil Air Patrol. ZebulonMorn (talk) 07:32, 9 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Remove "Author" from the Firstsentence

[edit]

Most WP:RS sources do not introduce Noem as an author, and it is not a very notable aspect. Hence it should be removed from firstsentence per WP:Firstsentance. Thanks. RogerYg (talk) 03:54, 6 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Done. Thanks. RogerYg (talk) 06:05, 7 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Include Secretary of Homeland Security in First para

[edit]

It has been widely reported in WP:RS sources. It is very notable that it should be included in the first paragraph of the lead. RogerYg (talk) 03:55, 6 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Done. Thanks. RogerYg (talk) 06:06, 7 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Civil Air Patrol

[edit]

Kristi Noem posted a picture on her social media about her promotion to Lieutenant Colonel in the Civil Air Patrol. [2] She joined during her tenure in the state legislature. "State legislative member" are honorary members unless they choose to continue as a full active member.[3] As she hasn't been a state legislator in over a decade, and the expiration date on her CAC reads "31 December 2024", she is an active member of the Civil Air Patrol. Additionally, "on Aug. 28, 2015, Gen. Mark A. Welsh III, Air Force chief of staff, announced CAP officially as a member of the U.S. Air Force’s Total Force, joining the regular, guard and reserve forces as American airmen." [4] This should absolutely be included on her infobox and intro, as she is an officer in the United States Armed Forces. ZebulonMorn (talk) 07:28, 9 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia needs a secondary source that mentions her membership in this organization and views her as a miliary officer with the rank of lieutenant colonel. Editors original research is not enough. Issues of "stolen valor" are highly problematic for politicians. The only source provided at the moment is an image of her membership card https://www.tmz.com/photos/image_jpg_20240426_8ae99004479c40508a66dc1528c679ab/. --Guest2625 (talk) 08:03, 9 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
As was widely reported, [5] [6] [7] [8] Kristi Noem deleted her social media accounts, making this information very difficult to procure. The only known public source has been provided. ZebulonMorn (talk) 08:08, 9 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I just found this, but I'm not sure its WK:RS. ZebulonMorn (talk) 08:58, 9 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That's funny. You want to cite yourself? --Guest2625 (talk) 09:54, 9 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
