Sultanates and territory

[edit]

Ian Caldwell has claimed that it is a common misunderstanding that Southeast Asian sultanates did not revolve around borders or territory in general. He says that this idea in modern scholarship is ultimately derived from one, misinterpreted colonial source. He also said that the paradigm of Indic mandala kingdoms were not spread throughout the entire archipelago. See his 'Review: The Myth of the Exemplary Centre: Shelly Errington's "Meaning and Power in a Southeast Asian Realm"', Journal of Southeast Asian Studies, Vol. 22, No. 1 (Mar., 1991), pp. 109-118. In other words, is Mary Somers Heidhues correct in saying that kongsi federations were 'territorially' different from sultanates? More importantly, should Wikipedia copy only her view? 82.217.116.224 (talk) 09:38, 22 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Samtiaokioe

[edit]

Can anyone tell me what is the exactly chinese characters for "Samtiaokioe" mentioned in the article? It seems to be "Sam-tiau-kiû" if transcripted into Pe̍h-ōe-jī, or did I mistake it as a Hokkien name?--Sunshine567 (talk) 09:26, 8 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
