Nov 2006
[edit]I removed the following text:
"In 1982, McGillis and her roommate were assaulted and raped in their home by the escaped rapist Leroy Johnson after McGillis came home from work. This experience encouraged the 5'10" actress to pursue her role as the lawyer who supports Jodie Foster's character in The Accused."
I don't know whether or not any of this is correct, but the only reference I can find to "Leroy Johnson" is a Medal of Honor recipient. If I am mistaken, by all means correct it.
- How about these? [1] [2] [http://www.amren.com/mtnews/archives/2006/06/top_gun_rapist.php] [3] I think I'll put that information back on basis on several independent news sources. I would be happy if a more original source could be found though. -- Northgrove 22:16, 21 November 2006 (UTC)
- Btw, I'm not sure about the encouragement as a lawyer actor though, and will add a {{Fact}} tag for that though. Until she's quoted talking about this, it could just as well be a freak coincidence? -- Northgrove 22:17, 21 November 2006 (UTC)
- Maybe include some general information. https://people.com/crime/kelly-mcgillis-top-gun-star-survived-rapes-and-assault/ Kate S432 (talk) 20:32, 25 February 2023 (UTC)

McGillis' height
[edit]She is clearly an inch shorter than Cruise, and Cruise is listed on IMDb as 5"7', so her height of 5"10' is clearly impossible unless Cruise was standing on something four inches high during their love scene. Obviously that would be so ridiculously humiliating that Cruise would not tolerate it. I mean, FOUR INCHES?!! That's the height of a house brick ... and then some!
Also, in case you had forgotten, Maverick feels the need ... the need for sex with men! —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 210.50.228.5 (talk) 10:47, 29 December 2006 (UTC).
Are you a short-fag like Cruise? No way he's 5'7". He'll stand on whatever it takes to look normal height. He's too short to be a Naval aviator. Couldn't reach the pedals.
- That movie was made before Tom Cruise got famous, so clearly he had not that much influence in the choice of his partner. He wouldn't have been the first actor to stand on something to appear larger. The same source that you cite for his height (Imdb) also says that McGillis is 5"10'. And don't forget that both his two ex-wives and his current wife are larger than him, so it seems that he can handle his below average height. -- CecilK 06:47, 27 May 2007 (UTC)
Actually, he is shorter than McGillis; he stood on apple crates to increase his apparent height for the film. How would I cite first hand information?
- And actually, the difference between 5'7'' and 5'10'' was, last time I looked, three inches not four, or about seven centimeters. That is still a sizeable difference, but the one further inch would make it a much more sizeable one.--2001:A61:2082:4701:44D9:D757:E5F9:9826 (talk) 16:24, 30 August 2017 (UTC)
Deletion of material with citations 2010-03-17
[edit]Material with citations is being deleted. Unfortunately those are facts and permissable in the article. WP:CENSORED states, Wikipedia may contain content that some readers consider objectionable or offensive, even exceedingly. The content is not inappropriate, graphic or indecent. WP:NOT further states, However, some articles may include text, images, or links which some people may find objectionable, when these materials are relevant to the content.
Consensus sought. This material has been present as stable information before two new editors visited this article today. Morenooso (talk) 19:56, 17 March 2010 (UTC)
- The removal of the attacker's name would be similar to white-washing the Lindbergh kidnapping article. Facts are facts. When cited and presented in a reasonable manner, we cannot censor Wikipedia much as we would like or I think his name doesn't matter either manner. --Morenooso (talk) 20:16, 17 March 2010 (UTC)
Virgina or Virginia?
[edit]Your first reference for her mother's name just says Joan, and the second reference has a paywall.

Why Was She Not in Top Gun 2 "Maverick"?
[edit]Does anyone have a good story with real citations that explain this? After all, it was Top Gun that made her career. Why didn't she get to be in the movie. I do not know, and I'm not being a "D". I'm literally asking if someone knows, and should this not be in this article? Because I really would like to know as a fan of the original movie. Cheers. 73.6.96.168 (talk) 02:57, 21 March 2021 (UTC)
- She gave an interview about it, you can search it.. youtube and I don't know what other platforms will have it. Of course, its her opinion only, Tom and the studios won't say a word. 12.53.232.146 (talk) 18:59, 24 June 2022 (UTC)
- Hi. Actually you can see a flash of her for less than a second in a scene in a bar from the first movie. Was that left in by accident . Has it now been deleted ? If not did she get any money ? Earle Blanton 173.23.18.167 (talk) 16:25, 19 July 2022 (UTC)

Weather Is Good on Deribasovskaya, It Rains Again on Brighton Beach - false credit?
[edit]In the movie "Weather Is Good on Deribasovskaya, It Rains Again on Brighton Beach", on this wiki and on IMDB, Kelly McGillis is credited as 'Marriott Manager'. However, she's not in the movie's end credits, I don't remember a hotel manager role, and there's no interview with the director or source verifying her having an uncredited cameo. Is this a case of Kelly McGrill (the movie's real star) being mistranslated over time? Or is there a verifiable source that Kelly McGillis also has a role in this movie? 2A06:5902:3803:C200:BD1C:4B0C:9C69:F3FB (talk) 00:26, 2 July 2024 (UTC)
