The second lead paragraph refers to "the collapse of the trial". This is misleading: it was not the trial that "collapsed", it was the defence against the alleged libel that was torn to shreds under cross-examination. Barnes, who sued for libel, was vindicated and received an apology and an out-of-court settlement. The same misleading words appear in the main text, leaving the reader in some doubt as to who actually won the case. Also,
