This is true and not unusual in the visual arts world. I hope other people will fill several of the mentioned events with more information.
Some of these events may perhaps be transferred to the articles: "Media Art Histories" or "New media art".

I apologize, I'm not an English native speaker, and I'm not a scientist. I'm a media artist from Switzerland, living in Germany, who knows about the importance of Kathy Rae Huffman's contribution to the development of new media art. Please correct my wording.
