"thus making it possible for Pier to accomplish what no other woman in America, or in the world, did at the time"
". She started alone and knew what pioneer business undertakings meant for a woman"
The tone of this ranges from melodramatic to arrogant and honestly seems more like a HuffPost article than the rules or spirit of Wikipedia. I will be revising the article for NPOV.--Sıgehelmus (Talk) |д=)17:30, 31 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
in doing so please do your research, "A woman of the century" is a title of a 1893 book where Kate Pier was featured and that is the caption of the photo that is in the book... it's not puffery, it's the right attribution of the photo.Elisa.rolle (talk) 19:20, 31 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I did and saw the filename during the editing, but the original syntax made it seem like boasting commentary. Often in file thumbnails the full title of the work is not given, so I took the minimalist approach. I don't see anything wrong with it now though.--Sıgehelmus (Talk) |д=)22:00, 31 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
The sentence you put in with phrases like "independent" and "best way" are biased and POV, I don't mean that like a jerk but it really is against the rules so I removed them. Please keep the facts only when editing! I also tagged for copy-editing because there are wonky grammar mistakes in the article. I'll fix up syntax but I just tagged it there in case.--Sıgehelmus (Talk) |д=)22:11, 31 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I will not change back again, but are you aware that in XIX century US (or even other countries for that matter) a woman with independent means was an exception? "phrases like "independent" and "best way"" are important concept, women did not usually have higher education, and once they married they lost their independence (for law not for custom, their property rights transferred to the husband). The FACT that Pier remained independent says a lot about her AND about her husband. Elisa.rolle (talk) 09:33, 1 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
