Memorial stones
[edit]There are two memorial stones at the site. There is also an information board set up by the Czech, Polish and German Embassies in Here are some photos: Jews, Roma, info. The text on the stones:
- 6000 Jews from Czechoslovakia, Poland and Germany were murdered here 1942–1943
- Thousands of Jews from Czechoslovakia, Poland and Germany as well as Estonian Roma people and other nationalities were murdered here between 1942 and 1943.
- The murders took place during the Nazi occupation of Estonia. The killers were Nazis and their collaborators.
- Trainloads of victims arrived at the railway station at Raasiku. The victims were separated according to their potential use as forced labour. The children, the aged and infirm were transported to this place and massacred by firing squads. They lie in unmarked graves at this spot.
- My Romani language is poor, so I cannot make much out of the Roma stone. This much i do think I understand: "2000 Romane manuša" means "2000 Romani people."
