Gameplay

Please can we add more information with regards to gameplay as this would be extremely helpful to those considering purchasing the game?

This is not a place for discussion of your opinions on Just Cause the video game but rather improvements for the article, which in my opinion is great. Be polite and do not interfere with those attempting to improve the article, otherwise an administrator might have to take action. Anyway, there is enough information on the game play but most of it is would be considered by Wikipedia policy as original research as that section cites no references or sources. 68.219.26.177 (talk) 22:30, 2 June 2008 (UTC)

Procedural generation quote?

I added some information on how the game generates the land scape however does someone have a quote from an interview about it? It's been touted as the example of procedural synthesis for a while and it does use the technique but a quote could help.--Kinglink 18:39, 25 August 2006 (UTC)

The land doesn't look very procedural, it's probably just baseless hype. The only real random thing I see placed is the trees (i've seen trees planted through buildings) CheapAlert 16:44, 27 September 2006 (UTC)
The terrain is all procedurally generated, and in terms of rocks/trees, what sort of ground textures are applied etc.
The villages/cities/outposts are hand placed though, so sometimes there might be clipping due to this fact.
The main island shape is driven by a heightmap, and the PS2-version used wang-tiling for it's ground textures to avoid noticable tiling (as the texture sizes on the PS2 for the ground was very low).

Biggest game area?

Surely the size is nothing compared to Daggerfall, right? Methulah 08:42, 27 September 2006 (UTC)

Haven't played Daggerfall so I couldn't say. Maybe they mean on a console? According to them this place is 1024 square KM. Is there any web source that can give an area for Daggerfall, and while I think about it, what about Oblivions area? I'm the mood for debunking Avalanches claim! I found this Wiki article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daggerfall which claims Daggerfall is 160000 square miles. Can someone who is good at conversion either work out this in square KM, or work out Just Causes area in Square Miles? Either way, It looks like Daggerfall wins! So maybe this article should be edited to say largest game area for a console game? The Kinslayer 10:57, 27 September 2006 (UTC)
Actually, I don't think this really matters, since this article makes no claims about the game having the biggest game area, just that the game area is 1024 square km. The Kinslayer 11:01, 27 September 2006 (UTC)

Buggy As Hell.

Maybe it's just me, but my version of Just Cause (bought in the UK on the 25th Sept) is buggy as hell! Examples include spinning almost endlessly on the front whell of a bike when turning too sharply, guns not making sounds, traffic vanishing until the game is reset, 'invisible' helicopters and the list goes on. Is there any sources for this, since the first release of this game feels unfinished and should be noted in the article, but because it's based on my experience, it's probably OR. (Oh, and the instruction manual is riddled with spelling and grammatical errors.)The Kinslayer 09:54, 26 September 2006 (UTC)

I added a couple of lines saying about some game-killer bugs as well. I'll add the source a bit later. Would it be alright to cite forums for the purposes of discovered bugs, as I doubt the Publisher or Developer is going to have any official news about them! And reviews seem to gloss over the majority of the bugs, but a quick search of any message board with Just Cause being discussed reveals quite a substantial list of bugs players have been unfortunate enough to run into. Be careful about just saying "the game has bugs" as all bugs may not be present in all versions of the game. On the PC I've had graphics glitches and missing speech problems but nothing that broke the game or made it unplayable. - X201 09:42, 27 September 2006 (UTC)
Good point, I just added a little bit before the game-killers saying that the PS2 version suffers. Other people can add other versions as they find sources. The Kinslayer 09:46, 27 September 2006 (UTC)
In a dramatic change of fortune I now have bugs on the PC version that DO make it unplayable. The main bug being helicopters that follow me everywhere and shoot me the second my wanted level goes above zero. - X201 21:23, 9 October 2006 (UTC)

UI problems

Perhaps this is also indicative of a rushed release but has anyone else noticed the rather clunky UI? The lack of mouse support in the menu screens, including the Map/Extraction/Drop area, for one thing. And why do I have to guess which weapon I have selected when I'm using a vehicle? There's no on-screen indication. I just have to scroll up down randomly firing off my weapons until I get the one I want (and with weapons with limited ammo, firing them off randomly is rather wasteful).

This is the PC version I'm referring to, by the way. I suspect the lack of mouse support for the menus is simply a lazy port from the console versions. Fivepast 15:06, 28 September 2006 (UTC)

Hidden Vehicles discussion

I would much appreciate it if the person who wrote that the Stirling STL-3 Octavio was "found at a small airport" would back that statement up and be more specific as to the location. Plays like GTA:SA

Is it just me, or does this game play like Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, but shiner and with more trees? Is Avalanche some kind of follow-up to Renderware, or am I crazy? 68.103.215.168 (talk) 05:41, 15 July 2008 (UTC)

The Avalanche engine was custom built by Linus Blomberg and Oskar Blomberg, the first version being a terrain rendering of northern Swedish forests, so it has no Renderware roots.
Just Cause was the first game made with it, so tools all had to be developed alongside the game. 194.14.191.2 (talk) 08:09, 6 September 2024 (UTC)

Is the title a pun?

Maybe I'm reading too much into this, but it strikes me the title has a double meaning. Contents of See Also section

Listed in the "See Also" section is, obviously, the sequel, Just Cause 2, then Operation Just Cause, a.k.a. the United States invasion of Panama. Is this name correlation enough to merit its placement in the See Also section?
