[edit]I am not sure we should open by saying that "The New York State Unified Court System is the official name of the judiciary of New York." It is the official name of the court system, but that is not quite the same thing as the judiciary. Thoughts? Newyorkbrad (talk) 18:35, 25 May 2013 (UTC)
- It is all rather ad hoc at the moment, concerning judicial system articles. This issue, specifically, I think is a holdover from the original article. I, personally, have no attachment to the introductions to these judicial system articles, as the bodies of the articles are not well developed in my opinion. It really concerns the difference between the definition of these terms, but I really don't have easy, online access to the Law of New York, neither primary, secondary, or (as the most useful) tertiary sources, so I can't say. Of all the legal material I read, I don't come across state-specific material often, not in the way of topics concerning the judiciary anyways.
- I am more concerned about the body of the article, and summarizing each section in turn in the higher level section, causing summaries to "bubble up" to the main introduction. For example with the Judiciary of Russia, the Judiciary of Germany, the Judiciary of California, and the Judiciary of Texas, it may take some time to get a clear picture of things. Notice how many references there are, and notice how plain and uninformative the main/section introductions are, and how it does not fully summarize the material.
- I will also reiterate my position on the issue as to what the scope should be for these articles, whether it should be "Courts of", "Court system of", "Judicial system of", "Judiciary of", or an even broader "Legal system of". I have settled on "Judiciary of" as a standard naming template across jurisdictions, both intranational, national, and international, as it was the most common form before I started renaming and standardizing them (and especially now after I have), and is the most inclusive without crossing into a "Law of" and "Legal system of" template article forms. I have in particular tried to limit the amount of legal information that does not directly concern the courts, their organization, their function, their maintenance, their composition, and their history. Not so much by deleting it (which I think should be refrained from as much as possible), but by pushing the information into separate sections for merging and pruning later. - For example, I think the information regarding the relationships between New York City courts and New York state courts need to be summarized in the "Courts" section (and of course expanded.) I think that is a major conceptual issue with this article at the moment. Int21h (talk) 07:15, 26 May 2013 (UTC)
Judicial Conduct
[edit]I'm working on an article on the New York State Commission on Judicial Conduct here:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Nwerner1/New_York_State_Commission_on_Judicial_Conduct
I think this could make a good section for this page. Feedback is appreciated.Nwerner1 (talk) 14:54, 23 April 2015 (UTC)
- @Nwerner1: Just make sure to consider WP:READABLE and WP:SUMMARY, considering this article's function as an overview article. I think this article is already too large.
- I do hope you have physical access to Albany or New York City, as many relevant sources will likely be only available in some local collection. I'm sure there are some very interesting things to cull from the works of the Commission itself, e.g., comments as to the judiciary as a whole. Also, please commit your article to the article mainspace, so others can edit it without restriction. Int21h (talk) 06:18, 2 May 2015 (UTC)
- @Int21h: Thank you very much for your feedback. I made the article shorter with the hopes that it can be included here. I'd love to get your feedback if you feel it needs improvement to get this section included. Thanks again for your help. Nwerner1 (talk) 17:54, 25 August 2015 (UTC)
- @Nwerner1: I actually think it should be it's own article, and if there is key or important information that helps readers understand the New York judicial system, I think it should be included here. But nothing that's been written so far about the commission would help readers understand the Unified Court System, other than the commission's role and purpose. Please note that I have overruled the decision to reject creation of the article; the article is at New York State Commission on Judicial Conduct. Cheers, Int21h (talk) 23:02, 27 August 2015 (UTC)
- @Int21h: Thank you very much!! I appreciate your help.
