Rareware-stub
[edit]This article has been tagged as a stub, but it seems fairly complete to me. What is it missing in order to make it a non-stub article? --Oscarthecat 21:19, 23 August 2006 (UTC)
I saw it was already tagged as a stub, so I decided to add the new Rareware stub I made. SNS 21:24, 23 August 2006 (UTC)

Port
[edit]Why some people dislike information about Atari XL/XE port and delete it...? Its directly port rewritten from ZX Spectrum version with some enhanced graphics... It is not official Atari ST version!!! Atari ST is a 16-bit machines, Atari XL/XE is 8-bit machines and on 8-bit Atari it isn't earlier version of this game!!!--Sikor soft (talk) 09:36, 22 February 2008 (UTC)
- I have googled a bit and found no reference to the notability of this port. --Frodet (talk) 16:29, 22 February 2008 (UTC)
So, you dont search good. You can find info in many places, like: www.atari.online.pl, RGCD#4 magazine and few more.--Sikor soft (talk) 07:40, 23 February 2008 (UTC)
- This is the english Wikipedia - you have not supplied any english references. And please try not to disrupt relevant edits. --Frodet (talk) 09:06, 23 February 2008 (UTC)
1st: wikipedia is free encyclopedy, so - if you can find any english references don't knowing, that it is no egzist. 2nd: Google your friend, but maybe it is to hard for You. So, I put especially for You google link: http://www.google.pl/search?hl=pl&q=jetboy+atari&btnG=Szukaj+w+Google&lr= - here is few english page too. For example: www.atariage.com, rgcd#4 magazine, atari 8 bit forever. But sorry - you can find nothing with simple google search - is too hard for You...--Sikor soft (talk) 19:02, 23 February 2008 (UTC)
- An advice: It doesn't help being patronizing. It's not an issue wheterher something exists or not - Wikipedia is not an encyclopedia of all and everything, see WP:NOTE. None of the Google links establish notability in my view. It might very well be notable, but you have yet to produce a single reference which establish notability - this is YOUR responisbility as contributor. --Frodet (talk) 19:26, 23 February 2008 (UTC)
- I'm sorry but a) Its an unlicensed port of a commercially released game. This is a blatant violation of article guidelines here. b) Its just not notable enough to carry its own article. There are clear guidelines for that as well at WP:N as well. --Marty Goldberg (talk) 20:11, 23 February 2008 (UTC)
To do
[edit]- lede needs description of gameplay
- what is the Jetman series?
- I suppose it meets the criteria of a "series", but it doesn't have its own article. Similar to Jumping Flash!, it has its own series but no article on the matter, even though they both consist of four games. JAGUAR 10:39, 4 August 2015 (UTC)
- It's fine to have this be the series article, but just should elaborate that the game spawned a few sequels that were similar/different/etc. – czar 16:51, 4 August 2015 (UTC)
- Got it - added this in the lead. JAGUAR 21:35, 4 August 2015 (UTC)
- It's fine to have this be the series article, but just should elaborate that the game spawned a few sequels that were similar/different/etc. – czar 16:51, 4 August 2015 (UTC)
- what does it mean that Jetpac was included in other games?
- Jetpac is included in at least two other Rare games, does this sound unclear? JAGUAR 10:39, 4 August 2015 (UTC)
- unlink the Stamper bros—they redirect to Rare
- reviewer opinions aren't summarized in the lede
- Added a bit JAGUAR 10:39, 4 August 2015 (UTC)
- I don't think we're adding Rare Replay releases in the infoboxes unless we're sure they weren't emulated? Template:Infobox video game#platforms
- True, not added by me. I'll remember to remove them in other articles I come across JAGUAR 10:39, 4 August 2015 (UTC)
- gameplay should be written to minimize jargon (explain wraparound, etc.)
- I cut some jargon regarding the forms of aliens and how to combat them. Wraparound is already linked, but I might explain how it works in the prose JAGUAR 10:46, 4 August 2015 (UTC)
- some clarification on sentences like "Beating a high score of Jetpac is necessary to beat the game." how?
- It did explain how gaining 15 banana medals were required to beat Donkey Kong 64, and beating a high score of Jetpac gave the player a banana medal or something like that, but it was too jargon-y and irrelevant to the article so I cut it. I'll rephrase it JAGUAR 10:46, 4 August 2015 (UTC)
- Clarified it now. JAGUAR 13:29, 4 August 2015 (UTC)
– czar 22:38, 3 August 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks for that, czar. I've addressed all of the concerns, with the exception of the game's inclusion in Donkey Kong 64 and Rare Replay, which I'm not sure if anything is wrong with that statement? JAGUAR 13:29, 4 August 2015 (UTC)
- Game is in compilation → readers get that it's a package of some kind. Game is in game → how? (game is hidden/unlockable/a minigame, etc.) – czar 16:40, 4 August 2015 (UTC)
- I've elaborated this in the lead - it's unlockable in DK64 and part of the compilation in Rare Replay. Although looking at it, I think it makes the lead too long and am tempted to move it in the body. JAGUAR 21:35, 4 August 2015 (UTC)

This is the very first computer game I ever had and I still like playing it 32 years later. So with a nostalgic tear in my eye, I'll take this on. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 14:47, 20 August 2015 (UTC)
I've done a little bit of copyediting.
Lead
[edit]- A two paragraph lead is about right for this article
- "he must rebuild his rocket in order to escape a planet" - I seem to recall the original instructions just said you were exploring planets, without escaping per se - can you check?
- You're right; I think it makes more sense that he is exploring planets and not constantly landing on them to escape them again! Rephrased. JAGUAR 18:41, 22 August 2015 (UTC)
- The information about basic gameplay and the Interface II release are not in the body.
- Now mentioned in the Background section JAGUAR 11:51, 22 August 2015 (UTC)
Legacy
[edit]- There's an uncited end of paragraph here
- Done, added the Rare Replay ref JAGUAR 11:51, 22 August 2015 (UTC)
Background
[edit]- Like Atic Atac, I think we should put some development background in here. From that old Crash article (where we got the Sabre Wulf written after Knight Lore bit) you could talk about how the Stampers weren't particularly impressed technically with the Spectrum having seen lots of hardware, but realised it would be a good selling computer and make their games financially successful.
- Some technical data might be worth adding; In Knight Lore's GA review I dropped in a source that shows Jetpac used what it called planar sprites, which basically have no masking and just overlap colour.
- Also worth mentioning the game ran on the 16K Spectrum; I suspect people won't even remember they existed.
- How does Jetpac Refuelled differ from the basic game?
- There have been some unofficial remakes
- And of course, Jetman had a long running comic strip in Crash!
- Thanks, I'll add all of the above into the Development section. I'm all sorted now! I've found the complete history of Jetpac (p 50) in a dedicated issue of Retro Gamer! This alone should make a good development section. JAGUAR 19:18, 22 August 2015 (UTC)
- I've made a start on the development section, trying to summarise every one of the points above into the section. Jetpac Refuelled is mentioned briefly in the legacy section. I hope I haven't left anything out? JAGUAR 21:40, 22 August 2015 (UTC)
Summary
[edit]- Again, I'm not sure how to proceed, there's only about 4.5K of prose, which is very short for a GA. I think for such a pioneering game, we can do more than just the basic reception. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 19:22, 21 August 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks for the review. I thought it might be too short and really I should start implementing Background and Development (if possible) sections in these Spectrum articles. I'll see what I can do. JAGUAR 19:25, 21 August 2015 (UTC)
@Ritchie333: I've made a development and release section, let me know if you feel that anything else should be added in there? Thankfully Jetpac has good overall coverage and a few retrospective interviews here and there. I managed to summarise all of the points you mentioned above into that section. This game is one of the only Spectrum games I never get bored with, and am actually quite good at it! JAGUAR 17:45, 23 August 2015 (UTC)
- @Jaguar: I did a few copyedits, but the article looks a lot better and I can't think of anything else to put in it. So I'll pass it. Well done, we've got some great articles for Ultimate now! Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 16:50, 24 August 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks again, Ritchie! This has to be my favourite Ultimate game. I'm going to get on with expanding the rest of the Ultimate titles (the ones that are part of the Rare Replay topic anyway), and if all goes well I might move onto other titles as seeing that they're extensively covered on magazines like Crash and Retro Gamer. JAGUAR 18:54, 24 August 2015 (UTC)
