Racial Controversy
[edit]I'm just trying to defend the edit i made adding the racial jokes used at the Roast of Flavor Flav. It's not enough to watch the the jokes but at the end of the roast Flavor flav says "F%*K Jeff Ross thats some racist shit" or something along those lines. I don't want anyone to think Flav wasn't offended as there were a lot of racial jokes that night but i think his stand out. Hopefully explaining my edit will keep it on the page for a little bit longer --65.93.84.41 04:35, 13 August 2007 (UTC)
- Take Flav's comments in the context of a roast, and it's meaningless. If something is said outside of the program, then maybe you have notable controversy.—Twigboy 04:46, 13 August 2007 (UTC)
- Well even though i still think it's pretty controversial to call someone Uncle Tom and suggest that being black is something bad or wrong (even in the context of a roast). I'll leave the article the way it was (sorry forgot to log-in when i edited it) Lesty 05:10, 13 August 2007 (UTC)
- I just watched the roast and I have no doubt at the end Flavor Flav was offended. Jeff Ross even stands up and tries to defend himself. I think they edited it. --Npnunda (talk) 02:56, 4 December 2008 (UTC)

Andy Dick?
[edit]I have never heard the quote rendered that way. What's the source? The version I've always heard was, "I wouldn't fuck [Sandra Bernhard] with Bea Arthur's dick." —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.109.103.194 (talk) 22:44, 23 January 2008 (UTC)

Expansion and clean-up May 2019
[edit]I've done some fairly extensive editing to this article in order to both expand it and to provide better references. I've also removed some of the unreferenced information if I could not find any references myself from reliable sources available on line. There were however a few challenges:
Ross's exact place of birth is hard to pin down
[edit]Prior to my edits his place of birth was listed as Springfield Township, Union County, New Jersey and the reference cited for his birthplace was his own comedy special No Offense, but there was no timestamp or quoted text included in the citation. I also read many articles about him, many of which included direct quotes from him about where he was "raised" or "grew up", but not one of them mentioned outright in what city he was born. I couldn't even find any mention of it in the few snippets of his book that are visible via Google Books. The best I could find was this article from the San Luis Obispo Tribune that simply referred to him as a "New Jersey native". To make matters more challenging, even if he was born in Springfield, it is difficult to say which Springfield, New Jersey for certain without a proper reference. Having said all of that, I have chosen to keep the original reference out of good faith, but I have also added {{time needed}} and {{quote needed}} tags to the reference.
His blackbelt in karate
[edit]I also took out the bit about his black belt in karate at 10 years of age since the only reports I could find of this were attributed to Ross. Presumably a claim of athletic ranking requires a third party source to support it.
Division of information into sections
[edit]Ross's career is hard to parse into neat and tidy sections because there is so much bleed-over and I found that the way that the article was divided previously somewhat disrupted the timeline of his career—for example his roast work directly led to his writing gigs with Kimmel and the Oscars; his directorial debut was a documentary about a comedy show and won an award at a comedy festival, etc. I also struggled with where to include the list of celebrity roasts he's been involved in without having a completely separate section about his roast work.
Anyone who wishes to take a stab at a better way to organize the info is free to do so. At least there are now plenty of references to work from. Cheers! Marchije•speak/peek 01:50, 6 May 2019 (UTC)
