Blue sky
[edit]Am I dumb for not understanding this sentence: "Despite her name also meaning blue sky, the project Bluesky was not named after her"?
Does "Graber" mean "blue sky"? In what language? I am pretty sure "Jay" doesn't mean "blue sky." We are told that "Lantian," her given birth name, means something else entirely. In summation -- huh? Jeri Southern (talk) 01:17, 31 March 2024 (UTC)
- This is explained in the "Early life and education" section:
Her mother named her Lantian, meaning "blue sky" in Mandarin Chinese, as a wish for her to have "boundless freedom".
. Funcrunch (talk) 18:17, 31 March 2024 (UTC)- This is false. Lantian (蓝田) mean blue (rice) field, not blue sky. Cleroth (talk) 02:42, 26 October 2024 (UTC)
- That's not her given name. She's a transwoman. Or perhaps non-binary. I don't remember. But as far as I have understood Graber was born as a man and later came out as a transwoman. Please correct me if I'm wrong. 92.220.74.144 (talk) 21:04, 16 November 2024 (UTC)
- Unless you have a reliable source, please avoid making claims about Graber's gender identity. Funcrunch (talk) 21:19, 16 November 2024 (UTC)
- I don't find any source, not even a fringe unreliable source btw, that suggests Jay is a trans woman nor do I find any sources that suggest she identifies as a non-binary person. Turtletennisfogwheat (talk) 02:23, 25 November 2024 (UTC)
"Julia Graber" listed as CEO/principle/governor in some business databases
[edit]I was looking for corporate info on BlueSky, and several business databases, such as Dunn & Bradstreet, list the CEO/governor/principal as "Julia Graber". Examples:
- https://opencorporates.com/companies/us_wa/605608574
- https://www.bizprofile.net/wa/seattle/bluesky-social-pbc
- https://www.buzzfile.com/business/Bluesky-Social,-Pbc-206-799-8616
Perhaps "Jay" is a nickname for "Julia". In any case, since "Julia Graber" appears on some important corporate documents, maybe that should be mentioned in the article?
(Edit: I'm not suggesting changing the name of this article; simply suggesting that the alternate name be mentioned somewhere in passing. It may help resolve confusion for readers that see "Julia" in corporate documents. ) Noleander (talk) 19:19, 26 November 2024 (UTC)
- It does appear that she went by the name Julia rather than Jay at some point. I found articles she wrote for Common Dreams under that name which have been since updated to the name Jay. However, this is original research, so we'd need a reliable source to include this former name in the article. Funcrunch (talk) 21:20, 26 November 2024 (UTC)
