Title
[edit]I think the current title of the article is not good English. The article is about glass in the Islamic culture, not about glass devoted to Islam. Islamic is an adjective denoting a religion in the first place, and not necessarily a society. Therefore, I would suggest to move the article to Glass in the Islamic culture or Glass in the Middle East or something similar.--Afluegel (talk) 04:24, 8 April 2009 (UTC)
- I just moved the article, as there does not seem to be any opposition.--Afluegel (talk - WP Glass) 19:42, 17 April 2009 (UTC)
- Well there is now! There is no reason for this to be any different from Islamic art, Islamic architecture etc. This is the standard academic term. You are entirely wrong to think "the current title of the article is not good English"! NB This user last edited in 2009. Johnbod (talk) 15:49, 9 February 2011 (UTC)

Glass in Islamic culture → Islamic glass — Back to the original name, over redirect, after an ill-judged move in 2009, by a German editor who disappeared soon after. See the discussion in the top section here. This is the normal academic term, & not ambiguous. --Johnbod (talk) 15:57, 9 February 2011 (UTC)

- Comment - I'm not convinced you can treat "glass" in the same manner as "art" or "architecture". For example, "American art" and "American architecture" sound like real concepts whereas "American glass" does not roll off the tongue; so you might expect such an article to be called "Glass in American culture" or "Glass in the United States" or something. I don't have that strong an opinion on this however. — Amakuru (talk) 22:02, 9 February 2011 (UTC)
- "Glass in American culture", like the current title, implies an article on the use of glass, rather than techological/art history, which is what this is. "Islamic glass" has 52,000 ghits. Try googling the alternatives! Islamic Glass in the Corning Museum of Glass, Volume 1 is the catalogue of the world's largest glass Museum, & books called "Islamic Glass" have been published by the Metropolitan in New York, & also the former Keeper of the British Museum collection. I can only suggest you try rolling it further. Most Islamic glass is more distinct from that of neighbouring cultures than American glass is from other Western glass, so this is not the best example. Islamic glass beads
[edit]Having read this impressive article, I wonder, if Islamic glass beads that seem to have a wide historical and geographical scope, should be included. - There is an article with a comprehensive bibliography in this article: Liu, Robert K. 2012. “Islamic Glass Beads.” Ornament 36 (1): 58–70.
