Merger?
[edit]- I saw that Interstate 24 in Georgia has been tagged for merger here. I'm inclined to keep the articles separate. It would be confusing to a reader going to the link for a Georgia highway to be redirected into the Tennessee article. I also don't think that the dip into GA is significant to be highlighted in the TN article; conversely, the fact that it is a dip from TN and one of the shorter spans of interstate in a state is significant from the standpoint of the GA article. —C.Fred (talk) 17:53, 25 February 2008 (UTC)

Merger - round two
[edit]I am suggesting that the I-24 in Georgia and Tennessee be merged into a single page. Reasons being include:
- The Georgia stretch continues Tennessee mileage/exit numbers.
- I-24 enters/exits Tennessee in both directions
By having them merged, there can be one article about 185 miles of Interstate mostly in one state. FMAFan1990 (talk) 06:43, 15 August 2009 (UTC)
- Sounds good; Interstate 24 in Georgia is a rather silly article. A similar case is U.S. Route 52 in West Virginia, which actually crosses into Kentucky several times (but is, I think, all maintained by West Virginia, unlike I-24). --NE2 07:05, 15 August 2009 (UTC)

- Although not exactly the same situation, there is some precedent for this. Washington State Route 41 (redirects to Idaho State Route 41) and Pennsylvania Route 17 (north) redirects to Interstate 86 (although New York State Route 17 is equally an appropriate redirect target. - PA 17 (north) is actually just the part at the very west end, which is now only I-86. The part through Sayre is NY 17, and is maintained by NYSDOT, despite being in Pennsylvania. --NE2 22:41, 15 August 2009 (UTC)

- I think this is a valid option. However I think it would work better merging the state detail articles instead. My reasoning, I've seen articles where the highway traverses multiple states, some with detail articles, some without. What tends to happen is someone adds navboxes, intersection guides, etc. to the main article for the states that do not have detail articles. What usually soon follows is some inexperienced editor, rushes to add these items for "their neglected state" not noticing that their state has a detail article. Then the revert wars begin..... By combining with another state detail article, I think this scenario is better avoided. Dave (talk) 18:24, 19 August 2009 (UTC)

Hamilton County
[edit]When traveling westbound on I-24 and re-entering Tennessee, aren't you in Hamilton county for about 100 ft before entering Marion county? Header
[edit]I put a header; I wanted it to include only the fact that although the article's title says Tennessee only, it's about both Tennessee and Georgia. But I also got a "for other uses" sentence that I didn't want. Is there a special template that this article (and also any other article with a title that is mostly right but 2% or so wrong) can have?? Georgia guy (talk) 19:39, 28 May 2022 (UTC)
- Rather than improving me, User:Imzadi1979 simply reverted me, as if the totality (as opposed to 98%) of the segment of the highway this article is about were in Tennessee. Georgia guy (talk) 20:00, 28 May 2022 (UTC)
- There seems to be an agreement amongst multiple editors that the Georgia segment is negligible (not unimportant; see this discussion and this page history). Equating it with the Tennessee segment could give undue weight. Bneu2013 (talk) 20:35, 29 May 2022 (UTC)
