Intelligence Citations Bibliography for Articles Related to IQ Testing
I have posted a bibliography of Intelligence Citations for the use of all Wikipedians who have occasion to edit articles related to human intelligence and related issues. I happen to have circulating access to a huge academic research library at a university with an active research program in issues related to this topic (and to another library that is one of the ten largest public library systems in the United States) and have been researching these issues since 1989. I have also been very active in an NAGC-affiliated state gifted association and in Davidson Institute for Talent Development programs, so I have a lot of referral sources to the latest publications on gifted children and gifted education. You are welcome to use these citations for your own research and to suggest new sources to me by comments on that page. -- WeijiBaikeBianji (talk) 17:40, 30 June 2010 (UTC)
- I am still updating the source list, and will be updating it for a long time. I have begun substantive edits of the article with the Wikipedia reliable sources guideline firmly in mind. Most online writings about gifted education just quote other online writings; Wikipedia can do better than that and quote professionally published sources. -- WeijiBaikeBianji (talk) 00:55, 9 July 2010 (UTC)
Who is watching this article these days?
I have had constructive interaction with one of the Wikipedians who has, I see, posted to this talk page in the last year. I'd like to begin a rather major edit of this article, based on sources I have been gathering for quite a while, and I wonder who else watches changes here. The article has been tagged for unclear references since September 2009, and one thing I will try to do as I edit boldly is verify and clean up the references, while adding quite a few new references. -- WeijiBaikeBianji (talk) 21:21, 26 July 2010 (UTC)
- This article is on my watchlist, although I'm not doing a good job of keeping up with changes. I would be happy to have you improve this article. You might also like to consider Gifted education, which is IMO in worse shape. WhatamIdoing (talk) 22:08, 26 July 2010 (UTC)
- Good. You are the editor to whom I was referring when I mentioned having constructive interaction with another editor here. I'm gathering sources first of all for major revisions of two other articles, which appear not to be watched very much. Those articles then will lead me by wikilinks to here, but I may indeed surf by Gifted education first, as I recall too that that article needs a lot of work. I will try to be relentless about adding sourced content to articles. -- WeijiBaikeBianji (talk) 22:19, 26 July 2010 (UTC)
g versus s factors
The current posting is definitely better, and moves away from the assumption that intelligence is a single, unitary construct, which is increasingly coming under attack (and has been in fact challenged for 80 years, but that's another issue). So it needs a little clean up on points like this: "Identification of gifted students with MI is a challenge since there is no simple test to give to determine giftedness of MI." This is a nonsensical statement; you would have multiple tests, one for each kind of intelligence. Whomever is focusing on this, please by all means continue to revise it. - What sources do you suggest for this article? -- WeijiBaikeBianji (talk, how I edit) 22:46, 29 October 2010 (UTC)
Misimpression
We should correct the misimpression some of this article gives about how the concept of IQ or g is less important than multiple intelligences. Yes, there are many kinds of abilities but in general they are highly correlated, meaning that for example a person with very high mathematical ability is very likely to have at least above average verbal ability. I do not have at the moment a paper explicitly stating it but my impression from a small review of the literature about intelligence in economics is that it overwhelmingly references the concept of IQ and not multiple intelligences. I do remember Steven Pinker giving his opinion that something like this was the case, though. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 193.205.23.67 (talk) 15:02, 22 October 2012 (UTC)
Einstein
We have a few sentences discussing Einstein's late language development. This appears to be a myth, according to http://www.albert-einstein.org/.index11.html and our own page on Albert Einstein. However, I don't feel qualified to rewrite the paragraph in this article to still include the relavant and important elements. Could an editor address this please? WotherspoonSmith (talk) 12:32, 1 June 2013 (UTC)
- The sources you kindly mention are not professionally edited reliable sources, but it should be possible to find sourced information on Einstein's early development in any of the recently published biographies of Einstein. The article text here, I agree, should reflect what reliable sources say about Einstein. -- WeijiBaikeBianji (talk, how I edit) 14:49, 1 June 2013 (UTC)
Unreferenced statements in article
Like most of the 6,451,327 articles here on Wikipedia, this article has been accreting quite a few factual statements over the years that are unreferenced and, in some cases, wrong. Let's discuss in this section any unreferenced statements in this article for which it is worthwhile to find a reference. I recommend the source list for articles on this topic and related topics (mentioned in an earlier talk page section here) for references we can all use to improve the article. I'll pass through the article to tag some of the statements that I think are most in need of references, and invite your commments about good sources. -- WeijiBaikeBianji (talk, how I edit) 00:25, 31 August 2013 (UTC)
