Excessive cites

[edit]

The 'Epidemiology' section has some pretty massive overciting. While there's nothing wrong with that, I know that it is generally discouraged. Can someone with expertise in these matters either expand the section to spread out what each specific ref is citing, or trim them down to the most relevant cites? I have zero expertise in these disciplines, so I can't make an informed judgement as to what is most relevant. Anastrophe (talk) 22:42, 17 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Post Covid respiratory response to to this virus

[edit]

Post Covid patients respiratory response and length of illness to this virus seems much more severe than to those never infected with Covid 2600:6C40:1300:5BE1:564:19E8:99C4:27D1 (talk) 01:41, 26 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Source? Citation? Anything more than just a random claim? Anastrophe (talk) 03:20, 26 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Can we justify a "this article has at least one issue?"

[edit]

Afaik, Wikipedia does not speak in terms of first person pronouns. Several sections have "We ..." passages. I am in to place to correct this myself. Ellenor2000 (talk) 22:18, 3 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

If you're willing, yes please. They're probably the result of just broad copying from the original papers without rewording. cheers. anastrophe, an editor he is. 04:14, 4 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Vacillation between "hMPV" and "HMPV"

[edit]

The article should stick to one or the other in my opinion. I don't know which one is the 'official' designation. There are 59 iterations of the character string in the article (including in refs). 25 are "HMPV", 34 are "hMPV". cheers. anastrophe, an editor he is. 03:33, 18 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

New Coverage

[edit]

There’s a lot of coverage on questionable news sites of an outbreak of this virus in China. I haven’t read a lot of the articles, but probably best to not add too much until more information comes out. Shenalan (talk) 00:01, 4 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

questionable as in? WorldDiagram837 (talk) 16:56, 4 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
"Viral videos", "appears to show", etc. The official Chinese and Indian responses I've seen are of the nature of "respiratory illnesses peak this time of year" and "we are monitoring it". kencf0618 (talk) 23:59, 4 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Vacillating between "hMPV" and "HMPV

[edit]

1.The 'Epidemiology' section has excessive citations and needs editing for relevance. 2.Post-COVID patients experience more severe respiratory responses to human metapneumovirus. 3.The article uses inconsistent capitalization for "hMPV" and "HMPV". 4.Recent news reports of an outbreak in China require further verification before inclusion. 188.113.216.155 (talk) 10:13, 4 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I mean there is this on the Wikipedia regarding your 4th point- HMPV outbreak in Northeast Asia (2024–present) - Wikipedia WorldDiagram837 (talk) 16:56, 4 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Reporting on new outbreak

[edit]

The final section in the article reports on a recent increase in cases in China that has been in the news. At the end of that section, the text has this sentence:

Hong Kong and countries like Malaysia, Kazakhstan, India, Italy, and Ukraine have also confirmed cases of HMPV infection.[1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8]

As the article says earlier, hMPV has been circulating globally for many decades (at least). The fact that cases have been confirmed in these additional countries isn't news. We know hMPV is in every country. Most of those reports even make the point that there's nothing of note going on here. None of these reports say there is a definite link with the increase of cases in China. (Malaysia has reported an increase in cases around the same time that may be related.) None of these citations meets WP:MEDRS. This sentence, thus, gives the misleading impression that these cases across Europe and central/south Asia are part of the outbreak, when that is not supported. I suggest removing the sentence.
