Why a separate article for houseboats in NYC?
[edit]There is a much broader article entitled "Houseboat," which discusses houseboats in general as well as in different parts of the world. In the US section, houseboats in many cities on both coasts are mentioned. After coming across this article on houseboats in New York, I just added mention of the estimated number of houseboats as of 1999 (much out of date) ... then thought to suggest that this article be subsumed with the broader article. - Keep - I think this article shows there is a unique houseboat history in NYC. The Houseboat article is already very long and could use work on its own. If there was a Houseboats in the United States article, I think you could make a decent argument about combining this article into that. My 2 cents - Wil540 art (talk) 13:40, 13 December 2024 (UTC)
- Agree that there's work to be done on the article. I've worked on the article off and on, though mostly a few months ago.
- But it never occurred to me that there'd be separate articles on houseboats for different parts of the country. If that sort of thing caught on, Sausalito could certainly make a next claim for the next article about its own houseboat community. Then perhaps Seattle.
But there are so many houseboat communities. If more and more began to get their own article, where would it end? Augnablik (talk) 16:51, 13 December 2024 (UTC)
- Houseboats in the San Francisco Bay Area would also be a good article! The houseboats article goes into medium depth while the stand alone articles can dive deep into the history of houseboats in each region. Why not both? You are welcome to add the information in this article to the NYC part in the houseboats article. - Wil540 art (talk) 17:35, 13 December 2024 (UTC)
