Wabash Washboard
[edit]This is a pretty good article about the Hot Shots, but the instrument created by "Hezzie" Trietsch was known as the Wabash Washboard, not the "zither." The Wayne Daniel article that's referenced uses this name; it's also referred to as the Wabash Washboard in a 1991 letter to me by Gabe Ward, so I'm sure it's correct.
I've deleted the bit about "reportedly Jones asked to join the band in the late 1940s, as the Hot Shots were in decline." Perhaps the writer meant Spike asked the band to join him, rather than Spike asking to join the Hot Shots, but there's no source for it and I've never heard this unlikely assertion; neither Gabe Ward nor Paul Trietsch Jr. mentioned it when I interviewed them.Jordan R.
