Can the information on the following link about marmot plague perhaps be included on the main page? Is there an actual relationship between this specie and a dangerous infectious disease? I'm no expert on zoonosis, but it is worth following through, especially if it means this page can grow a little from its (current) stub state. Silvercloud (talk) 04:36, 26 April 2010 (UTC)

[edit]These animals are in Kyrgyzstan in Central Asia, not the Himalayan region or Tibetan Plateau. Leo1pard (talk) 10:04, 5 February 2018 (UTC)
- The marmot in Kyrgyzstan is likely to be the Long-tailed marmot. Aranae (talk) 00:27, 9 October 2024 (UTC)

[edit]Part of the text "Other predators ... and large birds of prey like hawks, kestrels, bearded vultures and golden eagles", cited to an ADW link – kestrel is a small bird of prey (150-300 g) and couldn't possibly take a 4-9 kg marmot; ditto hawks except possibly Eurasian goshawk (0.5-1.5 kg) which might take very young marmots, but that would need a clear reference citation; and finally, bearded vulture, like other vultures, almost never takes live prey. Golden eagle is a valid marmot predator, so that alone I've left in. Any other avian predators should also get better references before being added. - MPF (talk) 20:42, 8 October 2024 (UTC)
