Bllix
I removed this person from the "notable residents" section simply because "Bllix" is not notable. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Pablothegreat85 (talk • contribs) 19:31, November 6, 2006
- OK, you can just mention something like that in the edit summary. Thanks for explaining. Katr67 03:52, 7 November 2006 (UTC)
Air Show
Hillsboro Airport hosts the Rose Festival's Air Show. Summer of 2006, a plane crashed in part of Hillsboro.
- It used to be the Rose Festival Air Show, but that stopped a couple years ago.[1] Now it is the Oregon International Airshow.Aboutmovies 02:41, 1 December 2006 (UTC)
To Do List
Hillsboro was listed in the Money Magazine top 100 Best Cities in 2006.
Then in 2007, Top Places to Retire by US News and World Report.
Also, Jason Earles, actor starring in Disney's Hannah Montana was a Hillsboro resident, graduating from Glencoe High School in 1995.
Anyone looking to improve the article might start with creating articles for the red-linked items on the page. Then, maybe find some sources to expand the history section to go beyond 1876.
- Other Hillsboro related articles needing creation: Rice Northwest Museum of Rocks & Minerals, Shute Park (oldest park in town), any of the state legislators listed, Dairy Creek bridge (http://nationalbridges.com/nbi_record.php bridge number 00744B029 01431)/page 227see also [2], Dairy Creek (Washington County, Oregon) [3] [4], and Washington County Courthouse (Oregon). Please remember the above when editing. That means when the library moves, it does not get a play-by-play. Simply note the new location so the article is not updated daily (you can make updates on your blog). Oh, wait they moved a book today, we better make an update! If there was an article about Hillsboro libraries then you could add something about previous library loactions like the old Carnigie spot accross from the courthouse and when the Tanasbourne branch was in the old Tanasbourne Mall. But not on the Hillsboro article. You may want to read WP:WWIN. Aboutmovies 01:48, 5 May 2007 (UTC)
Wording
This sentence (in the geography section) is awkward: "185th Avenue is the eastern most north-south route that borders Beaverton, but bisects the Tanasbourne Town Center from the rest of Hillsboro."
This might be better: "185th Avenue is the eastern most north-south route. It forms the border with Beaverton, and bisects the Tanasbourne Town Center."

- Seems I'm a little late here, but the suggested change seems to indicate 185th is the border and happens to go through the Tanasbourne Town Center. The point of the original is that though 185th forms part of the boundary (actually a rather small part since the two cities rarely touch as of this time) the eastern part of the Tanasbourne Town Center (where Target/Haggen/Old Navy are) is in Hillsboro. Address says Beaverton, but it is within in the city of Hillsboro. So I'm all for making it clearer, but it needs to empahsize the boundary item, since this is a common error of people not being aware of the actual city limits of the two cities, see the edit histories related to Oregon National Primate Research Center and OGI School of Science and Engineering, including the references to them on the Oregon page for the ongoing issue. Convert recreation to more comprehensive prose (link to Stub Stewart) with limited details on some of the items with subsection for events (include county fair and Shute Park concerts), move wineries to economy section. Add rock museum to culture and expand with some details that section. Continue citation standardization. Aboutmovies 18:13, 11 October 2007 (UTC)

Oregon Chorale
The Article "Hillsboro, Oregon" has a sub-section called "culture". Oregon Chorale is specifically listed. I would like to have the name of the group linked to www.oregonchorale.org People looking for a choir to join in the area can then find out a lot about the group. 70.89.178.182 16:44, 16 October 2007 (UTC)
- See What Wikipedia Is Not and you will see why this is not proper, as this is not an advertising service, travel bureau, or public service announcement website. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia. Also note, that the website is located in the references section. You may try to create an article on the Oregon Chorale, but be sure to use Wikipedia determined reliable sources that are independent of the group such as newspaper articles to establish notability or that article would likely be deleted. Transportation section
Apologies, I wanted to do a pretty thorough review of a couple sections, but unfortunately I'm way too bogged-down with "real work" to do that. So, just some quick observations:
I think the transportation section needs to be structured a bit differently. Numerous questions pop into my head as I read it, mostly centered on "what is being transported?" Knowing that train lines go through the city is not terribly interesting unless you know whether they're passenger trains, freight trains, whether they run multiple times a day or once a month, how many stops they have in the city. Similarly, I believe that one of the airports serves some regional commercial flights, but the other is private only -- I think that kind of information is pretty important.
Also, it seems strange to me that "Sister City" has its own section -- unless there's some reason to expand this with a number of paragraphs, I think it would make more sense as a quick paragraph in, maybe, "Culture." -Pete 21:40, 2 November 2007 (UTC)
- For whatever reason, all the city articles have a separate sister city section towards the end. I think the little flag icons that are favored for these sections make them less apt for prosification than most things. Anyway, it just seems to be following the standard so I don't think this would be a strike against the article for GA. Katr67 21:49, 2 November 2007 (UTC)
- I did some looking around at some featured articles. Some incorporate the sister cities into the "Government and politics" as a little list at the end of the section, some that have a ton of them make it a separate page, and some have it as a separate section at the end. Since Hillsboro only has one, maybe stick it in with gov't and politics. Katr67 22:15, 2 November 2007 (UTC)
GA Review
Wow! This article is very well written, and contains excellent and interesting content. There is also a nice use of pictures & photos (not overdone, but just enough to give a good perspective on the city). I didn't see any major or glaring grammatical or spelling issues (though I would still recommend a good copyedit prior to nominating for WP:FAC).
I made one minor change, moving the 'government' section a bit lower in the article, so as to emphasize 'history' a bit more (per guidelines, the first sections in an article should preferably be history, geography, demographics, economy). Government, while certainly important, is a bit less important, and can appear a bit later down. I also moved the sister city section to its own main section near the end, which is usually where those relationships are mentioned in most city articles.
You might want to promote the 'culture' section, putting it just after 'demographics' -- the government, education, and transportation sections should appear last, as they are more related to the infrastructure, and not quite as high as some of the other sections in terms of importance.
It might be nice to have a photo, image, or map in the geography section. Some cities also have a table of monthly high/low temperatures at the bottom of the climate section (see Flagstaff, Arizona as an example). This information is easily obtained from the weather channel.
I would also suggest adding some introductory prose to the 'notable people' section. Maybe highlight some of the more important people to the city's development. Some cities include this as a separate, linked list. Though it's kind of short here, so I'm not sure if that's necessary. Though these lists are prone to vandalism, so you should keep an eye out for things like random high schoolers adding themselves to the list and such,...
The guidelines listed at WP:CITIES, specifically WP:USCITY might provide some useful insights into how to improve the article further. Though I think as it stands, the article meets the Good Article criteria quite easily, and can be promoted now. Cheers! Dr. Cash (talk) 18:07, 9 December 2007 (UTC)
