Religion
[edit]Not that it's of huge importance, but sources differ on whether she's Muslim:"I heard other women say how I should behave or dress, as a Muslim woman" or Christian:"...a Palestinian Christian from Israel" Bangabandhu (talk) 22:32, 7 September 2019 (UTC)
- Well, the direct quote of hers saying she is Muslim is the valid one. LucyAyoubFan (talk) 01:25, 6 April 2020 (UTC)
- Here is another one from her native Israel, where it says that she is a (feminist) Muslim: https://www.haaretz.co.il/gallery/1.1373861 LucyAyoubFan (talk) 01:29, 6 April 2020 (UTC)
- Her native ***Palestine. She is a Palestinian from Palestine. Thank you! 2601:1C0:4C85:4B80:ECEA:592F:E9BE:2BFB (talk) 08:50, 30 September 2023 (UTC)

Palestinian Identity
[edit]Hiam Abbass is a Palestinian citizen of Israel and is referred to in a plurality of sources as a Palestinian actress (here, here, and here, to name but a few) . In this article on Israeli newspaper Haaretz, she also self-identifies as Palestinian. Her bio should be updated accordingly.Mrmalabi (talk) 07:03, 14 June 2020 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mrmalabi (talk • contribs) 20:32, 5 May 2020 (UTC)

Change "Israeli-French" to "Palestinian" 73.71.67.223 (talk) 23:32, 3 June 2020 (UTC)
- Done, as she clearly defines herself as Palestinian. However, I have left her Citizenship as French and Israeli (unless anyone can come up with any other sourced info), Huldra (talk) 23:43, 3 June 2020 (UTC)
== Formally she is an Israeli of Arab ethnicity. If she identifies her self as something else, this can be discussed elsewhere or mentioned. But cannot be a reason to change her title as an Israeli-French actress. ---

She's referred to as "an Palestinian actress" where, grammatically, it should be "a Palestinian actress". 84.62.226.177 (talk) 20:54, 27 August 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks! You are correct, and hence: Done. -Huldra (talk) 21:38, 27 August 2020 (UTC)

Change born in Israel to Palestine, if you are saying she is a Palestinian actress. FionaMcP (talk) 17:08, 27 November 2021 (UTC)

Hiam was born in Israel, so she is an Israeli actor, not Palestinian. There are almost 2M Arab citizens in Israel and they are all Israelis, not Palestinians. 104.53.70.103 (talk) 21:17, 28 December 2021 (UTC)
- Not done She defines herself as Palestinian, as can be seen from the source in the lead. That she has Israeli Citizenship is also stated in the info-box, Huldra (talk) 22:06, 28 December 2021 (UTC)
- Her "definition", does not change her nationality and citizenship which is Israeli-French. So this cannot be a reason to define her nationality as Palestinian. She can be defined as an Israeli-French actress of Arab ethnicity, or an Israeli-French actress (identified as a Palestinian), etc. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.22.46.146 (talk) 16:57, 18 January 2022 (UTC)
- If you look at the map, she was born in Palestine. The fact that it is occupied and you're "defining" the country by another name is not a reason to define her nationality as anything other than what it is--A Palestinian from Palestine. 2601:1C0:4C85:4B80:ECEA:592F:E9BE:2BFB (talk) 08:52, 30 September 2023 (UTC)
She identifies as Palestinian but is listed as Israeli
[edit]See this GQ source: https://www.gqmiddleeast.com/culture/hiam-abbass-oussekine 216.181.70.66 (talk) 12:35, 23 September 2023 (UTC)
- But she literally calls herself a Palestinian many times in that same article, so we must respect that for the sake of accuracy. Trqalobaid (talk) 00:27, 12 October 2023 (UTC)
Calling her Israeli is further erasing Palestine
[edit]She is Palestian from Palestine. Calling her Israeli with no mention of Palestine is disrespectful to her self-identification and is further erasing Palestine in favor of the settler-colonial state of Israel. 2601:1C0:4C85:4B80:7D6A:5DFD:8B17:DF32 (talk) 12:58, 25 September 2023 (UTC)
- Agree, even the 2nd citation article next to her nationalities has identified her as Palestinian multiple times across the article. Trqalobaid (talk) 00:26, 12 October 2023 (UTC)

Hiam is Palestinian. Why does her Wikipedia page label her as “israeli-french” 73.14.171.172 (talk) 04:55, 12 June 2024 (UTC)
- Not done: please provide reliable sources that support the change you want to be made. Charliehdb (talk) 13:45, 12 June 2024 (UTC)
- To clarify, the existing citation next to the description in the lead says she is Palestinian. She identifies as Palestinian, and she is an Israeli citizen, hence all the discussions above. The change was made here by @BilboBeggins:, who used their own decision procedure to label Abbass. Sean.hoyland (talk) 14:01, 12 June 2024 (UTC)

Hiam Abbas describes herself as Palestinian and so to call her Israeli erases her heritage: https://amp.theguardian.com/film/article/2024/jun/10/hiam-abbass-lina-soualem-bye-bye-tiberias ImDB also describes her as a Palestinian actress. She should be described as a Palestinian-French actress 2A02:8084:26C0:DC00:CCC2:4C9B:D8BA:E66B (talk) 22:53, 18 June 2024 (UTC)
