Fossils
[edit]BIOLOGY OF THE CHENGJIANG FAUNA has images of Heteromorphus fossils on pages 86 and 87 (as per the page corners); are these usable? Mlvluu (talk) 20:59, 12 December 2024 (UTC)
- I don't know what the copyright status of that publication is, but assuming there's no copyright problem then they should be usable. They aren't the most easy to see, but better than nothing. I find Figure 139 (particularly the "part" in A but an image of both part and counterpart would be fine) more useful than 140 since the specimen in 139 is complete. I have too many articles I'm trying to write (simultaneously because... reasons) and have only been searching for new images if there wasn't anything at all suitable. So that image I put up is the one that was already on Wikimedia Commons and didn't include any other vetulicolians (I like the taxobox image to be obviously and, if possible, only the correct organism). More images always welcome!
- There is also a partial diagram in On the Phylum Vetulicolia (Shu, 2005) page 2345 fig. 2(h) (Chinese Science Bulletin has an Open Access policy noting a Creative Commons Attribution license). Unfortunately I have not found a way to access the 1999 discovery paper for H. longicaudatus, much less figure out its copyright policy, and I don't think I've seen any other Heteromorphus images.

- @Mlvluu AFAICT, "Biology of the Chengjiang Fauna' is "Free Access" (©Lethia Foundation) rather than "Open Access" (which the same publisher does for other works under a Creative Commons license). So we would not be able to use images from it without permission, as I understand it.
- The same is sadly true of the other best source of fossil images, Aldridge et al. 2007 — "Free Access" but ©The Palaeontological Association, and not "Open Access".

Needs adding to wikidata for taxonbar
[edit]Heteromorphus is not on wikidata and I'm not familiar with how to set up a taxon there. If anyone is, it would be great to get Heteromorphus, H. confusus and H. longicaudatus entered, and a taxonbar linked to Heteromorphus added to this page.
