Originally "Harry"?
[edit]Growing up watching this from the beginning, I could swears his name was originally simply "Harry"--"Harry Monster". That made perfect sense. I did not start seeing it spelled "Herry until the last couple of decades. I had noticed that he later looked less large and hairy (and frightening), so I wonder if they may have changed the spellign as part of making him less scary.Eric B (talk) 15:58, 2 July 2008 (UTC)
- In some parts of the country, probably including yours, Herry and Harry (and hairy) are pronounced the same. In other regions, Harry and hairy sound different: Harry rhymes with marry, and hairy rhymes with Mary, and none of those rhyme with merry. I don't remember how they pronounced Herry on Sesame Street, but the spelling makes me want to make it rhyme with merry. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.112.179.135 (talk) 00:44, 31 August 2011 (UTC)
