Isn't this just an expression?

Hmmm... isn't this just an expression in style of "Don't do anything I wouldn't do" and so on that has been around for ages. Seriously doubt that all use after '69 of this expression points back to this song. I'm a foreigner so I may be wrong. Could someone from the english speaking world comment on this, please.
