Primary sources?

[edit]

Hi @Onel5969:,

Per WP:PROF, these guys don't have popular coverage in news sources anyway so it would be futile/silly to look for their mention in the Times. I feel that for an academic this is a sufficiently independent listing of refs. I agree that there are several refs from their workplace, but then there are enough third party refs (such as the journal articles, other uni articles, and the obit).

For this article, I have used references from following sources:
1) The Maxwell School reports
2) Obituary in Syracuse Post-Standard, a newspaper in Syracuse, NY
3) Maxwell Perspective, a magazine of The Maxwell School
4) University of Missouri.
4) journal article from American Political Science Association
5) Princeton Alumni Weekly (Memorial)
6) Syracuse University reports from 1980 & 1990
7) Award bio from Network of Schools of Public Policy, Affairs, and Administration
8) Syracuse University News

I guess I'm involved in this as I created this page and would prefer the templates removed. I feel I have a valid point, but let me know what you think. Thanks. GreaterPonce665 (TALK) 15:23, 6 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

GreaterPonce665, not questioning his notability, but the vast majority of the sourcing is primary. I know it's difficult to find non-primary sourcing on academics, that's one of the reasons that WP:NSCHOLAR is given so much weight in review decisions. However, that doesn't mean that the tag should be removed. As other editors, or yourself, find independent sourcing, and it isn't relying so much on the primary sources, then the tag can be removed.
