Please can somebody with a knowledge of Manchester please write a sentence describing its boundaries? Jt spratt 16:13, 13 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Future of this article

[edit]

Now that this article has survived AfD, it needs improving. We have plenty of UK Scout County articles that are much better than this, so I do not think we need to combine them into one article. Let us retain the pattern we have for the other Scout Counties. The other surviving Manchester article, Scouting in Greater Manchester West is in worse shape, while Scouting in Greater Manchester East was speedy deleted, but could be recreated if we make it good enough, with enough sourced material. I think one problem is that these counties are fairly recent and material is widely scattered. Please, if you know about Scouting in Manchester help to improve these articles and help to find good sources. --Bduke 04:56, 28 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Are there any "Scouting in...." articles which are particularly good? We may wish to borrow ideas from them to get things going. Jhamez84 11:18, 28 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
They are all in the template at the bottom of the article on the other Counties and the Scout Association. I think Royal Berkshire is one of the best. I worked up Cumbria the other day but Royal Berkshire is much better. Basically we need third party sources, history, census numbers, notable events and notable people. Lists of Districts and Groups, camp sites, etc are OK but much more is needed. --Bduke 11:52, 28 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Notability

[edit]

I have consulted with another editor - outside of Scouting. Assuming good faith, I'm afraid that I cannot see that these new sites fit in with Wikipedia as they appear effectively nothing more than a list of branches of The Scout Association. For further information on this please see the section Wikipedia is not a soapbox on Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not, notably the section on advertising. Even when open to Groups of all Associations these pages were of suspect standard, and closing them to independent Groups has not helped in any way.

I suggest returning them to their original format, a new format that allows all Scouting in a County to be reported, or, alternatively, deleted as inappropriate. -- DiverScout (talk) 19:04, 1 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
