As mentioned earlier in the talk page, "educational technology company" is probably not the best description of this company. "student monitoring, screen recording, tracking, device management, and suicide prevention" may be a better way to phrase it. Thanks. Also, a "controversy" and "CIPA" section could be good to add. 193.122.147.40 (talk) 14:07, 8 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Should we talk about the GoGuardian.Team account being a possible way of edit the article of making them look good?

There is valid reason for privacy concerns

[edit]

This thing used to track KEYSTROKES. An account that simply is here to make GoGuardian look good has has written something here lately. This whole thing is practically the DEFINITION of spyware. Not only that but some of the clients use this to "Boost Student Productivity," it's amazing because no one can be productive with a tab limit of ONE. Oh? your needed thing is banned? Well too bad, now do the thing that is supposed to be done. Oh but wait, IT'S BANNED. What i'm saying is that this service is both spyware and a tool used for a "teacher's," personal preferences. DJMemez101 (talk) 20:03, 11 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@DJMemez101: Alright, listen, I know this is gonna sound like I am dismissing the issue, but please remember that Wikipedia is not a forum, and that this extends to talk pages as well. If you don't like GoGuardian, cool. But Wikipedia doesn't host your opinions. On a side note, could you link me the user who was making edits to promote GoGaurdian? --47.188.34.104 (talk) 19:59, 22 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
P.S.: Just realized, I think you are refering to Wikipedia being compromised. Is that true? --47.188.34.104 (talk) 21:02, 22 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I totally agree! Luckily my teachers don't enforce a single tab limit, but it's really annoying and unproductive when the source I need is blocked. Sometimes, even the videos my teachers show to the class are blocked on YouTube, and I've heard their weary voices as they are forced to look again for unblocked links on their carefully formatted hyperdocs. I understand why the school would want to block games, but sometimes students have free time, and playing a quick game or two could help reduce stress, especially the case for YouTube entertainment videos. I was really disappointed when GoGuardian decided, for whatever reason they might have had, to block music, entertainment, comedy, gaming, and many other video categories on YouTube. I originally thought that the school decided to block it, but I asked a staff member who told me that they didn’t purposely choose to block the videos, it was just GoGuardian messing around with us. For some uses, GoGuardian is necessary, but there should be set times where its restrictions are let up, such as after school hours, and during lunch. Teachers should also be able to override these restrictions for educational purposes, and if it’s a free day. 104.37.211.86 (talk) 15:39, 8 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Not done: it's not clear what changes you want to be made. Please mention the specific changes in a "change X to Y" format and provide a reliable source if appropriate. ‑‑ElHef (Meep?) 15:19, 21 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

"GoGuardian is an educational technology company"?

[edit]

The headline for this Wikipedia entry states that GoGuardian is an educational technology company, but when I peruse the list of categories in that article, it isn't at all obvious where "web filtering", "chrome device management", "suicide and self-harm alerting", and "network management" software belong in that list. The simplest explanation is that some authors of this article have mis-characterized the nature of GoGuardian's business model and product line. The presence of "classroom management" software in GoGuardian's software suite does not abrogate the fact that most of the programs have functionality not advertized as being educational in nature. This Wikipedia article appears to contain terribly wrong or even deceptive information about the nature of GoGuardian's business. The company works with schools, their software is present on student computers, but it is an unsubstantiated leap to reach "educational technology" from having schools as customers. Questions: (1) How to correctly characterize the business GoGuardian is in? Network and laptop mananagement with an admixture of spyware and a bit of classroom discipline? (2) Someone more knowledgeable about the operation of GoGuardian's software would be invaluable in arriving at a correctly sourced characterization of this company's business. Pwfen (talk) 16:36, 22 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there Pwfen. I have looked into GoGuardian a bit and could at least help to answer your questions. "How to correctly characterize the business GoGuardian is in?" I would say it is in the student monitoring and filtering buisness. In the US there is a CIPA law that requires filtering, though GoGuardian goes a few steps further with advanced monitoring technologies. Their technology is legal in most countries, though in most cases unethical. Unfortunately many schools use it anyways. It is also in the "device and network managment" buisness, though the main buisness is web filtering and student monitoring, including recording student screens. If you go to https://www.goguardian.com/ they'll tell you what they do, and while they try to make it sound nice, it is pretty clear how it could be Orwellian. I guess they are trying to make themselves seem like an educational technology company with the acquisition of Pear Deck, which could be something to mention in the Wikipedia article. https://www.goguardian.com/teacher-bundle/ Edit: Oops, forgot to sign: 193.122.147.40 (talk) 14:10, 8 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Fixed grammar, is it too intrusive?

[edit]

I made the edit as shown: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=GoGuardian&diff=1054705079&oldid=1054595492

It had a grammar error of using "has been hatred between students", which has a few errors in the sentence construction. Firstly, "has been hatred" is incorrect. Also, the section does not mention between students and *what*. I therefore changed it to "has had hatred from". Note that I am aware of the bad POV and lack of neutrality in POV on this section, but I am not experienced so I only want to make a grammar edit. Does my grammar edit change the POV too much? Is it too intrusive? I would like to receive feedback on this, it is my first edit.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Enxtropayy (talkcontribs) 17:46, 11 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not really a moderator or anything, just an average Wikipedier, but if I had to say, it looks entirely fine to me. A simple, harmless grammar fix. 99.121.84.167 (talk) 18:48, 24 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The "Controversy" section doesn't fit here

[edit]

Hey @Roxy the dog,

You reverted my removal of the Controversy section, and I'd like to reach consensus about this. First off, as you might know, this article is somewhat controversial with young students. It's seen the addition of many low-quality and biased edits, and last month it's had 9 reversions, despite being a relatively low-edit article. You can even scroll up from this section and see other such edits to this talk page.

The Controversy section does not fit the encyclopedic tone of Wikipedia. You can clearly tell that it's not neutral; it's blatantly biased against GoGuardian. Further, it's not actually properly sourced. One of the sources are from G2, a peer-to-peer review site, which is not suitable as a source.

I would recommend one of us rewrite the section or remove it entirely. I really don't see the point of keeping it on the article, as it is not useful to any reader in it's current state. PeterPrettyCool (talk) 20:55, 7 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Nine! nine&&* OMG thats as many as I see in some articles in ten minutes. Good grief.
Controversy sections are fine and often used.
Consensus is not going to be changed for non policy based reasons. "I dont see the point" is not policy. -Roxy the dog. wooF 22:41, 7 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Under the product history section it should be added that GoGuardian has acquired TutorMe in June 2022. Source: https://www.goguardian.com/newsroom/goguardian-acquires-tutorme-bringing-one-on-one-online-tutoring-to-students-across-the-u-s Numbers1492 (talk) 15:45, 26 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
