Glinka → Glinka (disambiguation) – In the same manner that Borodin redirects to Alexander Borodin paired with a Borodin (disambiguation) page, Mussorgsky to Modest Mussorgsky, Prokofiev to Sergei Prokofiev, Rachmaninoff to Sergei Rachmaninoff, Rimsky-Korsakov to Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, Shostakovich to Dmitri Shostakovich, Stravinsky to Igor Stravinsky, Tchaikovsky to Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, Telemann to Georg Philipp Telemann or Wagner redirecting to Richard Wagner paired with a Wagner (disambiguation) page, so should Glinka redirect to Mikhail Glinka. — Roman Spinner (talk • contribs) 01:29, 30 December 2024 (UTC)
- Comment This makes sense to me, but I don't want to fall into the WP:NWFCTM trap - is there evidence that Mikhail Glinka is the most sought-after primary topic? 162 etc. (talk) 22:31, 30 December 2024 (UTC)
- Support. See clickstream/Wikinav [1]. Adumbrativus (talk) 00:10, 31 December 2024 (UTC)
- Support per above. 162 etc. (talk) 18:49, 31 December 2024 (UTC)
- Per WP:DPT, let's have a look at the stats. WikiNav linked above says that with 162 views of Glinka in November, we saw 92 identifiable clickstreams to Mikhail, 16 to the surname, and 93 filtered. That's ostensibly more than half already, but the sum is 201, which is noticably larger than 162, and larger than a grand total of 168 with redirects. This is a fair bit suspect, it could mean some people are clicking around and coming back to find what they were actually looking for again.
- Sadly in the same month WikiNav barely renders at the surname page, with 21 filtered clickstreams.
- If we look at all time mass views it's clear the composer is a topic of far more interest than all of these places, meaning the sorting of the disambiguation page has been absolutely bonkers.
- All-time mass views for all the people indicates some of those other biographies also get much more readership than these items over here, and there's a fair bit of long-term significance beyond the composer.
- A conservative compromise would be to do this move but then move the surname list to the base name. If we then continue to see the composer get by far the most clicks, it's easy enough to switch to a primary redirect. --Joy (talk) 23:59, 31 December 2024 (UTC)
