according to the first officer u55o-diary records from Deutsche Kriegsmarine:
The crew dident fired the deck gun, the tryed to fire all torpedos after getting hit, but only one was fired. the boot was on ground of the sea, not behind the sincking tanker. the german crew had Hydrophon contact with three ships above own position. after depth-charged hit the boot and forced to surface, 44 crew members tryed to reach the nearest us-boot. but the boot changed direction, noone oft the 44 survived. 2 crew members died during the artilery fire from several us-boots. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 134.3.42.165 (talk) 12:05, 28 July 2012 (UTC)
